The Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office wants to warn the public about a phone scam involving individuals falsely claiming to be Sheriff’s Office deputies.
The Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER call you and demand money to clear a warrant or avoid arrest.
Scammers may provide fake names and use spoofing technology to make it appear that the call is coming from the Sheriff’s Office phone number. They may also instruct you to purchase Apple gift cards or use a QR code from Walmart to send them money.
If you receive one of these calls:
Hang up immediately.
DO NOT send money, purchase gift cards, or scan QR codes to make a payment.
Do not provide personal or financial information to the caller.
If you have concerns about a possible warrant, contact the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office directly using an official phone number.
Please help us spread the word and protect our community from these scams. When in doubt, hang up and verify!
Thank you for helping keep Edgecombe County safe! 🚔
