REMINDER: Hydrant flushing will occur over the next two weeks. This important maintenance is necessary to ensure water quality and remove sediment buildup in the distribution system. Flushing helps maintain proper water flow and pressure throughout the Borough and allows us to identify and repair any issues in our system.

The following schedule is subject to change. Beginning on Monday, October 12, 2026, flushing will start on the east side of Tarentum and move westward as the process progresses.

Week 1:
Mon. 10/12 – E 1st through E 2nd
Tue. 10/13 – E 3rd through E 5th
Wed. 10/14– E 7th through E 8th
Thur. 10/15 – E 9th through E 10th
Fri. 10/16 – E 11th and surrounding areas
Sun. 10/17- E 6th Business District. Flushing will occur around midnight to minimize disruptions to businesses.

Week 2:
Mon. 10/19 – W 6th and W 7th areas
Tue. 10/20– W 8th and W 9th areas
Wed. 10/21 – W 10th and W 11th areas
Thur. 10/22 – West Tarentum surrounding areas
Fri. 10/23 – West Tarentum surrounding areas

Please note that during flushing in your area, you may experience low water pressure or temporary water discoloration. If you notice brown or discolored water, briefly run your cold water to clear the line.

Important Note: Please Do Not Call 911 for Discolored Water. Residents should not call 911 over discolored water. This is a common and temporary occurrence during hydrant flushing.

Peoples Natural Gas will begin gas line replacement work on West 10th Avenue between Western Street and East Street. Once the utility work is completed, the roadway will be restored and paved. The project is expected to take approximately five weeks.

Residents and motorists should expect temporary traffic and parking impacts while work is underway. Please use caution in the work area and follow any posted signs or directions from crews.

The Tarentum Spray Park will close for the season on Friday, September 18, 2026.

The Borough typically closes the Spray Park around Labor Day, depending on the weather. With the warm temperatures this year, we were happy to keep it open a little longer for everyone to enjoy.

We have some repairs and maintenance planned over the winter and spring, and we look forward to having the Spray Park ready for another season next year.

UPDATE: The Tarentum Bridge has been reopened.

The Tarentum Bridge is currently closed on both inbound and outbound lanes due to a vehicle accident.

Motorists should avoid the area and use an alternate route until the roadway is reopened. Emergency personnel are on scene.

We will provide an update when additional information becomes available and the bridge is reopened.

The Tarentum Spray Park will be closed until further notice after a vehicle struck and damaged the park’s electrical panel and fencing. The park was closed at the time of the incident, and no pedestrians were injured. The protective bollards prevented the vehicle from causing further damage.

The Borough will work to complete the necessary repairs and reopen the Spray Park as soon as it is safe to do so. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding

Live Outage Map - Beta Version Now Available

The Borough has launched a beta version of our new live electric outage map. This tool is designed to provide residents with better, faster information during power outages. When an outage is detected through our meter system, the map can display the affected area in near real time. Residents can also report an outage online, and those reports help us identify and verify potential issues faster.

Because this is still in beta, we are asking residents to help us test it during future outages. The next time you lose power, please use our website's online outage reporting tool.

This tool is part of our communications kit, which includes our Savvy Citizen app, where the Borough sends public notices and alerts directly to residents via the app or email. The outage map helps show what is happening, while Savvy Citizen helps us quickly communicate updates to the public.

This project was built in-house using existing Borough systems and low-cost tools. The ongoing cost is less than $5 per month, compared to commercial outage management products that can cost tens of thousands of dollars per year.

We are committed to building practical, cost-effective solutions in-house when it makes sense. That approach helps us improve service, communicate better with residents, and save public dollars.

Happy 250th Birthday to the United States

This Fourth of July, our nation marks 250 years of independence. It is a moment to celebrate not only America’s history, but the enduring idea that ordinary people can govern themselves, care for their communities, and keep building a better future together.

That spirit of self-government is alive in places like Tarentum. It is seen in our volunteers, first responders, public servants, local businesses, community organizations, and residents who show up, serve, ask questions, solve problems, and work to make this Borough stronger.

As we celebrate Independence Day, Tarentum joins communities across the country in honoring our nation’s past, recognizing the work still ahead, and giving thanks for the freedoms, responsibilities, and opportunities we share.

Happy 250th Birthday to the United States of America.
