The Tennessee Department of Agriculture has issued temporary animal import requirements following a recent detection of New World screwworm in Texas.
There is currently no indication of an outbreak in Tennessee. This proactive order focuses on education, early detection and prevention to help protect animal health.
New World screwworm is a parasitic fly that can affect warm-blooded animals, especially through open wounds. Animal owners, producers, veterinarians and transporters are encouraged to monitor animals closely, especially wounds and areas around the nose, ears, eyes, mouth and genitalia.
Watch for drainage, discharge, bleeding, swelling, discomfort, lethargy, isolation or unusual odors.
Suspected cases must be reported to the Tennessee State Veterinarian’s Office within 24 hours at 615-837-5120 or [email protected].

Potential Weather Forecast for today Monday June 1st 2026
05/29/2026
Potential Weather Forecast for today Friday May 29th 2026- Saturday May 30th 2026
Isolated Flash Flooding is possible this evening through Saturday afternoon for most of the area.
What Has Changed:
Confidence has increased in the possibility of isolated Flash Flooding.
Today, Thursday 5/29 Through Saturday 5/30
Isolated to scattered showers and storms will continue to increase in coverage and intensity this evening, with rainfall expected into Saturday.
Rain rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour can be expected at times, in the heaviest showers and storms.
Due to recent saturated soils and high rain rates, isolated flash flooding is possible for some areas, especially across areas that see repeated rounds of showers and storms.
Due to the scattered nature of the convection, it's hard to say where the highest rainfall amounts will occur. Some areas within the Flash Flood Watch will see several inches of rain, and some may see little to none.
Areas that see training and repeated rounds of convection, could see upwards of 3 to 5 inches.
Confidence:
High for timing.
Low to moderate of at least one instance of isolated flash flooding.
