🚨 KNOW BEFORE YOU RIDE β€” WEEK 3
Texas Law + Teague City Ordinance

If you’re operating a golf cart, UTV, or ROV on a public street in Teague, you are operating in traffic β€” and the City ordinance requires you to meet the same basic responsibilities expected of other drivers.

βœ… You must have a valid driver’s license appropriate for the vehicle.
βœ… You must carry your driver’s license while operating.
βœ… You must carry proof of financial responsibility.
βœ… You must comply with any restrictions on your driver’s license.
❌ A learner’s permit does not satisfy the requirement.

These vehicles may be smaller than a car or truck, but once they are being operated on a public street, they are sharing the roadway with other traffic.

No valid license or proof of financial responsibility? Don’t take it onto a public street.

Remember: the new City ordinance does not replace Texas law. Operators must comply with BOTH applicable State law and the City of Teague ordinance.

Know the law. Know the ordinance. Know Before You Ride.

🚨 AEDs Going Into Service Across Teague ❀️

The Teague Police Department is expanding access to lifesaving equipment throughout our community.

Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are being deployed in every Teague Police Department patrol vehicle, placing this critical equipment directly in the hands of officers who may be among the first to arrive during a cardiac emergency.

AEDs are in the process of be placed at several City facilities, including (may be a few days for each to be completed):

- Teague City Hall
- Public Works
- Teague Public Library
- Community / Over 55 Center
- Teague Volunteer Fire Department (replaced theirs with new
upgraded units)

During sudden cardiac arrest, every minute matters. Having AEDs readily available can make a tremendous difference while EMS is responding.

This is another investment in preparedness, public safety, and giving our employees and first responders the tools they need when seconds count.

More locations. Faster access. One goal β€” saving lives.

πŸŽ€ This One Is Personal. πŸŽ€

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and this year the pink ribbon carries a little more meaning for the Teague Police Department.

Every member of our staff is wearing the pink ribbon in support of someone very close to our TPD family who is currently fighting breast cancer.

We wear it for her.

We wear it as a reminder of the strength it takes to face this battle, the families who stand beside those fighting it, and the survivors who have walked this road before.

To our family member currently in the fight: you have an entire department standing behind you.

And to every person and family affected by breast cancer, you are in our thoughts and prayers.

πŸŽ€ No one fights alone.

KNOW BEFORE YOU RIDE β€” Not Every Street Is Open
The new City ordinance does not allow golf carts, UTVs, and ROVs to operate on every roadway in Teague.

For normal operation under the ordinance, the roadway must:
βœ… Be within the City of Teague
βœ… Be open to vehicular traffic
βœ… Have a posted speed limit of 35 MPH or less
βœ… Have no more than one lane of traffic in each direction

Operators may not travel along roadways posted over 35 MPH unless otherwise authorized by Texas law, and these vehicles may not be operated on public sidewalks, trails, or parks unless specifically authorized.

Remember: Texas law and the City ordinance both apply. Being allowed to operate on a City street does not exempt the operator from State traffic laws or other applicable requirements.
35 MPH or less does not automatically mean every road qualifies. Know where you can ride before you go.

Know the law. Know the ordinance. Know Before You Ride.

WHAT CHANGED?

KNOW BEFORE YOU RIDE β€” Texas Law + Teague City Ordinance

The City of Teague has adopted Ordinance No. 2026-09-21-D, establishing rules for the operation of certain golf carts, Utility Terrain Vehicles (UTVs), and Recreational Off-Highway Vehicles (ROVs) on qualifying public streets within the City.

The important thing to understand is that the new City ordinance does not replace Texas law.

Texas law already regulates golf carts and off-highway vehicles, including license plates, equipment, where certain vehicles may be operated, and other requirements. The new City ordinance works with those laws by authorizing certain vehicles on qualifying City streets and establishing additional local operating requirements. Texas law allows municipalities to authorize golf carts and unregistered OHVs on qualifying streets with posted speed limits of 35 MPH or less.

Under the new City ordinance:

βœ… Golf carts may be operated when all applicable requirements are met.
βœ… UTVs may be operated when all applicable requirements are met.
βœ… ROVs may be operated when all applicable requirements are met.
❌ ATVs are prohibited from ordinary operation on public streets, highways, and sidewalks, except for authorized governmental or public-safety use.

Being permitted by the City does not exempt anyone from State law. You must comply with BOTH.

Over the next several weeks, we will break down what those requirements mean.

Know the law. Know the ordinance. Know Before You Ride.
