When you hear that a proposed school could reduce expenses, it’s natural to wonder when those changes would reach your tax bill.
For JCC, there would first be a transition period: making payments on the new school while finishing improvements to the high school students would continue using.
Over the next two summers, the district plans to complete high-school upgrades to meet current building and safety codes. During the first two years of the bond, it would continue collecting the full Building Fund and QCPUF levies to finish that work, alongside payments for the new school.
Bringing school operations together in Tecumseh is projected to reduce expenses and building-related tax collections by about $2.3 million a year. That includes staffing changes, more efficient use of buildings, lower utilities, eliminating intersite transportation, and lowering the tax asking for the Building Fund and QCPUF.
The district projects approximately $52 million in savings over 25 years. That projection includes bond repayment, with savings beginning to be realized in year three of the bond term.
The timing matters: the district would first finish the high-school renovations, then lower the existing building-related levies.
