Thanks in large part to the helpful citizens in our community, the individual involved in the property damage at the Oakland City Park has been identified.

An affidavit of probable cause is being prepared and will be forwarded to the Burt County Attorney’s Office for consideration of charges.

The Oakland Police Department is seeking your assistance in identifying this individual. They are being sought in connection with vandalism and the destruction of government property at Oakland City Park during the nighttime hours of October 12–13, 2026.

🤠Burt County Deputy Evans & Deputy Warner: 1, Cattle: 0! 🐄

Sometimes the job calls for a little less law enforcement and a little more cowboy work! Deputy Evans and Deputy Warner recently had to help get some cattle off the roadway and back where they belong. 😂

Here in Burt County, we’re proud to live in cattle country, but our four-legged friends don’t always understand traffic laws! 🚔🐮

Friendly reminder: Keep your eyes on the road, watch for livestock, and slow down if you encounter animals on or near the roadway. A little extra caution can prevent a big accident!

Stay safe out there, Burt County! And remember, our deputies may be good at catching the bad guys, but sometimes they’re just out here chasing cows! 🤠🐄

We remember the victims, their families, the heroes, and the strength of a nation that came together in the face of tragedy.

Information release.
On September 3, 2026 The Burt County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an individual suffering from a mental health crisis who was armed with a fi***rm, and was possibly entering Burt County. Shortly after receiving the call, the individual arrived at the Sheriff’s Office. The dispatcher was the only person inside.

Due to the unknown circumstances, and the reported fi***rm, Sheriff Nick requested that the school be placed on lockdown as a precaution.

The individual eventually surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. No fi***rm was located on the individual.

There is no threat to the public, and the situation has been resolved.

We would like to thank all of the law enforcement agencies who responded and assisted in safely resolving the incident.
