*ICE rumors

The San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office, Mountain Village Police Department and Telluride Marshal’s Office are aware of false reports circulating about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in San Miguel County on Friday, October 9, including an AI-generated image falsely depicting an ICE arrest in Mountain Village.
Local law enforcement agencies have found no evidence to support reports of ICE activity in San Miguel County today. A review of multiple surveillance cameras in the area confirmed that no ICE agents or vehicles were observed at the reported location. The image circulating online was also determined to have been generated using artificial intelligence (AI).
Separately, federal ICE agents conducted a confirmed enforcement action in Telluride on Thursday, October 8, involving, reportedly, a previously deported felon. Local law enforcement was not notified in advance and did not participate in or collaborate with ICE during that operation.
The spread of false information and fabricated images can create unnecessary fear and confusion in our community. Local law enforcement agencies encourage residents to verify information before sharing it, particularly when reports involve public safety or law enforcement activity.
Anyone who receives images or reports of suspected ICE activity and has credible information supporting those claims is encouraged to contact the San Miguel Sheriff’s Office Dispatch at 970-728-1911 or WestCO Dispatch Center for Mountain Village and Telluride concerns at 970-249-9110. Local authorities can review the information and help determine its accuracy.
We ask community members to rely on verified information from official sources and avoid sharing unconfirmed reports or images.

If you've noticed heavy equipment moving dirt near Mill Creek Road, here's what's going on! Construction is underway on site improvements for the Mill Creek Planned Unit Development (PUD), which was approved in 2016. Work currently includes building subdivision roads and berms and installing utilities on land between Hillside and Mill Creek Road, just east of Brown Homestead. As part of the original subdivision approval, portions of the property were designated for open space and housing. That process designated the area currently being developed for a future park as open space. Construction is not expected to affect surrounding roads or the bike path, but residents should be mindful of construction vehicles on and around the site.
