A day in the life of a Councilmember, part two. ๐
When my good friend, Rep. Stacey Travers, asked me if I could meet her at 7:45 a.m. on a Friday morning at Kyrene de la Mirada, I said yes, no questions asked...and that's how I found myself teaching two classes of third graders about campaigns, elections, and how local politics works. I had an absolute blast doing it.
And when my friend Molly McGovern with UFCW Local 99 asked me to join her table at the luncheon celebrating the 11th anniversary of ASU's Pastor Center for Politics and Public Service, that was also an automatic and enthusiastic yes! Anything to celebrate the incredible legacy of Congressman Ed Pastor and the work that his family continues to do, especially his amazing daughter, outgoing District 4 Phoenix City Councilmember Laura Pastor, and his grandson Frankie Pastor of the Phoenix Union High School District Governing Board.
But my FAVORITE part was unexpectedly sitting next to prolific Chicano artist Zarco Guerrera and his beautiful wife Carmen Guerrera of the Cultural Coalition. I was fangirling pretty hard after spending last Sunday afternoon viewing a collection of his work, currently on display in the museum over at the Mesa Arts Center. Serendipity! ๐คฉ
