In the summer of 2015, a small group of us farmers in Maricopa County, Arizona found ourselves working eighty hours per week, growing delicious and beautiful vegetables, yet barely able to make ends meet. The photo alone is making our mouth water, but check out these local ingredients: The sourdough bread is made by Chompie's - Phoenix with regenerative flour from Oatman Farms. The goat cheese is from Crow's Dairy, the arugula comes from Duncan Family Farms; the basil is produced by / TruLocal, and the sandwich has a touch of . We’re not done yet! The Cottage Fries are from Frites Street and the ketchup is made in house from scratch! Ok – you know what to do – get yourselves over there – 14 St. and McDowell, and share the local love!

Schools all over Arizona are participating this month in the Arizona Department of Education's Farm Fresh Challenge program - the goals of which are to Taste, Teach and Connect Arizona students as they enjoy healthy, locally sourced foods! For a peek at what's going on at Osborn School District for their participation, check out this recent lunch, including fresh strawberries, and an amazing Crispy Buffalo Chickpea Ceasar salad! Meal ingredients were sourced from Agritopia Farm, Blue Sky Organic Farms, Healing Earth Farm, Ramona Farm, Shamba AZ, and Crow's Dairy!

At Brunson-Lee Elementary School, we are excited to participate in the Farm Fresh Challenge 2026 on April
15 & 16.
Students will be outside in the garden planting corn seeds and taking part in hands-on activities while learning about Arizona agriculture and local farms.
As part of the experience, students will enjoy delicious toasted local corn, refreshing lemon water, and local orange juice while discovering where healthy foods come from.
