Today, Honeywell Aerospace announced that a new $500 million, 300,000-square-foot facility will be built as an expansion to its Tempe campus.

It’s expected that 600 people will work at the facility, which is scheduled to open in late 2028. In addition, construction of the facility will support more than 1,000 local jobs.

"This project marks the largest aerospace investment in Tempe's history, and we are proud to be the city of choice for Honeywell Aerospace's significant expansion," said Mayor Corey Woods. "This key project sets the stage for further growth and development of our region's aerospace, technology and manufacturing sectors, helping to strengthen Arizona's position in the global market."

The City of Tempe joins communities across the country in mourning the passing of Dolores Huerta, a pioneering labor organizer, civil rights leader and advocate for equality. She was 96.

Huerta co-founded the United Farm Workers and spent more than six decades fighting for workers' rights, women's rights and social justice. Her words, “Sí, se puede!” or “Yes, it can be done!” in English, became a rallying cry for generations of people working to create change.

“Dolores Huerta spent her life standing up for people who deserved to be heard and treated fairly,” said Tempe Mayor Corey Woods. “She helped change working conditions for generations of families and showed what people can accomplish when they organize and speak up. I'm proud that Tempe has made a point of honoring her work, and that we're helping young people carry that commitment to their own communities.”

Tempe honors her contributions through Dolores Huerta Day and the Dolores Huerta Scholarship, which supports local students who demonstrate a commitment to community service, leadership and social justice.

Turning on the tap, putting your bin out on pickup day, and walking city sidewalks may seem simple. However, each of those actions depends on complex systems working behind the scenes, made possible by the skilled, hardworking city employees who keep our city running and the continued investments that maintain and improve the services we all rely on. Today, we recognize our Public Works Department for their work in delivering some of the most important city services.
