Tempeโs new Age-Friendly Action Plan ensures the City is livable and supportive for residents as they age. Think specialized job fairs, new recreation and volunteer opportunities, home safety help and an easier time getting around.
These strategies and more help create a community where older adults can age in place safely, stay connected and access the services they need โ now and into the future. The Action Plan is the centerpiece of our Age-Friendly Community designation by AARP and the outgrowth of the Age-Friendly Tempe Council Subcommittee, led by Vice Mayor Doreen Garlid, with Councilmembers Nikki Amberg and Randy Keating.

This dust storm rolled into Tempe during last year's monsoon season.
Arizona's monsoon season begins June 15 and continues through Sept. 30. Monsoon storms can bring dust storms, lightning, strong winds, heavy rain and flash flooding, often with little warning.
A few important safety reminders:
๐ต Dust storms: If visibility drops, get indoors. If you're driving, pull off the roadway, put your vehicle in park, turn off your lights and keep your foot off the brake.
โก Lightning: If you hear thunder, move indoors immediately. Lightning can strike miles from a storm.
๐ง Flooded roads: Never drive through standing or moving water. Turn around and find another route.
For additional safety tips, information about free sandbags, what to do if a tree falls and other monsoon resources, visit tempe.gov/Monsoon.

Mayor Woods is a self-professed foodie. So, when he heard that was opening a permanent location, he had to check it out.
Tender meats smoked to perfection and a myriad of side choices, your belly will thank you.
Brothers Ahmad and Mo Abu Ghazal, and Moโs wife Salsabil fell in love with barbecue in the depths of Dallas, Texas, after coming to the U.S. from Jordan. They relocated to the Grand Canyon State in 2019 and started Wild BBQ as a food truck business in 2023.
They opened their brick-and-mortar location at University Drive and Roosevelt Street in December.
Open Thursday-Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., but get there early if you want to try everything!

๐ฒCongrats to the 2026 Bike Hero โ Nancy Puffer! ๐ฒ
She is a dedicated volunteer with Bike Saviours, where she serves on the Board of Directors as Director of Art. Using discarded bicycle parts from the Bike Saviours scrap bin, Nancy creates original works of art, transforming old bicycle components into mirrors, jewelry, sculptures, decor, and one-of-a-kind statement pieces. Most impressively, Nancy donates 100% of the proceeds from these sales to Bike Saviours.
Nancy is also the lead organizer of the annual RE:Cycle Art Night, benefiting Bike Saviours. This unique event unites the arts and cycling communities. For the past two years, Nancy has led this entirely volunteer-driven event, which has become one of Tempe's most creative grassroots community celebrations. Nancy truly embodies what it means to be a bike hero.
