Why did you join AHS?
I grew up reading national geographic magazines and always loved learning about life lived around the world. I joined AHS to learn how American foreign policy impacts our relationships around the globe.
What region of the world interests you the most?
I am most interested in the MENA region
What is your major?
Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership, Economics
What book or movie has been the most influential for you?
A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens ‘recalled me to life’. This book taught me that the difference between “the best of times and the worst of times” is not an external condition but an internal one.

The Education of Cyrus by Xenophon taught strategies of leading as well as virtue.

We are very excited about securing Ambassador McFaul for a discussion with Dr. Keith Brown, Director of the Melikian Center at ASU, on democratic development and the role of democracy promotion in American foreign policy. Ambassador McFaul is currently a professor of political science at Stanford University, the director of Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, and the Peter and Helen Bing Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution. He served for five years in the Obama administration, first as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Russian and Eurasian Affairs at the National Security Council at the White House (2009-2012), and then as U.S. Ambassador to the Russian Federation (2012-2014).
