πŸ”₯ β€œCAN WE BURN YET?!?” πŸ”₯
The short answer is: NO β€” not yet.

Although some areas of Oregon have officially ended fire season, fire season restrictions remain in effect within the Tenmile Rural Fire District and on lands protected by the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA).

Fire season decisions are based on local weather, fire danger, and fuel conditions, not simply the date on the calendar. Conditions can vary significantly across the state.

While temperatures are beginning to cool, weeks of above-normal temperatures have continued to dry vegetation throughout Tenmile and the Douglas District. Substantial rainfall is still needed to increase moisture levels in larger fuels, including trees and woody vegetation, and reduce fire danger in areas where fuels remain dry.

Recent local fires here in the county, including the Canyonville Park Road Fire and the Coos Bay Wagon Road Fire, are reminders that wildfire risk is still present.

🚫 Debris burning is still prohibited while fire season restrictions remain in effect.

We understand many residents are waiting for the fall burning window to open. For now, please keep burn piles covered and ready so they can burn safely and cleanly once conditions allow.

Tenmile Rural Fire District follows DFPA regulations during fire season.

Tenmile now uses the Before You Burn app and website to help provide burn status information. Residents can check BeforeYouBurn.com or our website www.tenmilefire.org for current burning information. More information about Before You Burn will be shared later.

Thank you for your patience and continued cooperation in helping prevent wildfires.

πŸŽ„TENMILE VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS ASSOCIATION POINSETTIA & WREATH SALE!πŸŽ„

The holidays are right around the corner, and there’s no better way to decorate your home, brighten up your workplace, give a beautiful gift, or simply get into the holiday spirit than with fresh poinsettias and Christmas wreaths!

This year, instead of picking up your holiday flowers at a big-box store, shop local and support the volunteers who serve your community. β€οΈπŸš’

The Tenmile Volunteer Firefighters Association is now taking orders for beautiful red, pink, and white poinsettias, along with fresh mixed evergreen wreaths in several sizes.

🌺 Poinsettias
4” β€” $15
6” β€” $18
8” β€” $30

πŸŽ„Mixed Wreaths
20” β€” $21
24” β€” $27
31” β€” $35

Want to spread your support even further? We also have order forms available at the station for wreaths and other holiday decorations benefiting Lookingglass School. It’s another great way to decorate for the season while supporting a local organization in our community.

When you purchase through the Tenmile Volunteer Firefighters Association, your money does much more than buy a holiday decoration.

Proceeds support the Volunteer Firefighters Association, which helps provide opportunities and resources that may fall outside the department’s normal publicly funded operating budget. Association funds can help support community organizations and sponsorships, firefighter-related causes, local events, volunteer appreciation activities such as our annual banquet and Christmas gathering, and improvements that make the station a better place for our volunteers.

These funds have also helped purchase practical items for the fire station β€” including things as simple but necessary as dishes and silverware for our newly remodeled station β€” and can assist with uniforms, gear, equipment, training-related needs, and other items that directly benefit our volunteer firefighters.

Our volunteers give their time to serve the community throughout the year. This fundraiser is a simple way for the community to give something back while bringing a little extra Christmas cheer home at the same time.

Buy one for your home. Give one to a friend, neighbor, teacher, coworker, or family member. Decorate your business. Order a wreath for the front door.

🎁 Every purchase supports your local volunteer firefighters and helps us continue supporting the community we’re proud to serve.

Orders are now open!
Please contact the Tenmile Volunteer Firefighters Association, call 831-359-0229 or stop by the station to place your order.

Thank you for supporting local volunteers, local service, and the Tenmile community! β€οΈπŸš’πŸŽ„

πŸ”₯ Fire Safety Week is here β€” and October is Fire Safety Month!πŸ”₯

This year’s theme is β€œCharge Into Fire Safety”, with a special focus on rechargeable and lithium-ion battery safety.

Lithium-ion batteries are found in many of the devices we use every day, including phones, laptops, power tools, e-bikes, e-scooters, toys, and more. When these batteries are damaged, defective, or charged improperly, they can overheat, catch fire, or even explode.

A few important safety reminders:
- Use the charger supplied or approved by the manufacturer.
- Charge devices on a firm, flat surface and away from heat.
- Unplug devices when fully charged and avoid charging overnight.
- Stop using a battery if you notice swelling, leaking, discoloration, unusual heat, strange odors, hissing, popping, crackling, or smoke.
- Never place lithium-ion batteries in household garbage or curbside recycling. Take them to an approved recycling location instead.

If a battery is smoking or on fire, get everyone outside immediately, close doors behind you, call 911 from outside, and stay outside. Do not handle the battery or go back inside.

Fire Safety Month is also a great time to check the basics around your home: test your smoke alarms, review and practice your home escape plan, stay in the kitchen while cooking, and keep combustible items away from heat sources.

From all of us at Tenmile Rural Fire District, thank you for helping keep our homes, families, and community safe.

RESTRICTIONS DECREASE FOR PUBLIC AND INDUSTRY

DFPA NEWS RELEASE: Due to decreased fire danger and expected precipitation across lands protected by the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA), Public Use Restriction Levels will decrease to LOW, effective Friday, September 25, 2026, at 12:01 a.m., for all private, county, state, and Bureau of Indian Affairs lands within the Douglas District.

The reduction in restriction levels reflects improved fuel moisture conditions; however, the public is reminded that fire season remains in effect, and caution should continue to be exercised when using equipment outdoors.

Debris Burning- including debris piles and burn barrels, remains PROHIBITED at all times.

Additionally, the Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) will decrease to Level 1, effective 12:01 a.m., within the Douglas Forest Protection District, on all lands protected by DFPA, which includes all regulated use areas, and all forestlands within one-eighth mile of those areas, including lands managed by the Roseburg District Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

IFPL (Industrial Fire Precaution Level) levels within the Douglas Forest Protection District will change to IFPL LEVEL 1, in regulated use area (s) DG-1, DG-2, UA-1, UA-2, and all forestland within one-eighth mile thereof.

What does this change mean to the public?

Non-industrial power saw usage, cutting, grinding, or welding of metal, cutting, trimming, or mowing of dried, cured grass, and power-driven machinery for non-industrial improvement or development on private property is allowed ALL DAY.

Off-Road Driving Allowed with Landowner Permission for Motor Vehicles, including motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles, is only allowed on improved roads free of flammable vegetation, except for cultivating and harvesting agricultural crops. In addition, each passenger vehicle traveling on forestlands, except on state highways, county roads, and driveways, must have an axe, a shovel, and one gallon of water or a 2 Β½ pound or larger ABC fire extinguisher. ATVs must have a 2Β½-pound or larger ABC fire extinguisher.

What restrictions does IFPL1, Industrial Fire Precaution Level 1, place on industries?

Under Industrial Fire Precaution Level 1, the use of fire or power-driven machinery in any operation area is unlawful unless such use is in compliance with the following:
All applicable fire prevention requirements of ORS Chapter 477 and OAR Chapter 629 Divisions 41 to 43.

NEVER FORGET β€” SEPTEMBER 11, 2001

Today marks 25 years since the attacks of September 11, 2001. A quarter-century has passed, but the sacrifice, courage, and loss of that day remain deeply felt.

Tenmile Rural Fire District joins fire departments, first responders, and communities across the nation in remembering the 2,977 lives lost, including 343 members of the FDNY, as well as law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, military members, and civilians.

We also honor the countless first responders who ran toward danger, those who worked at Ground Zero in the days and months that followed, and the families who continue to carry the loss of loved ones.

For those of us in the fire service, the 25th anniversary is a powerful reminder of the commitment to serve, the strength of the first responder community, and the importance of remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

25 years later, we remember. We honor. We will never forget. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

OLALLA ROAD FIRE β€” TENMILE RURAL FIRE DISTRICT RESPONSE

On Saturday, August 22, 2026, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Tenmile Rural Fire District was dispatched along with the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) and Central Douglas Fire & Rescue to a reported natural cover fire near the 3300 block of Upper Olalla Road.

Responding crews initially encountered difficulty locating the fire and accessing the incident due to the fire’s remote location. Once contact was made and crews were directed into the fire, a Tenmile Fire tactical tender and brush truck, along with Central Douglas Fire & Rescue Brush truck, reached the fire within approximately 12 minutes of the initial dispatch.

Firefighters found an approximately five-acre fire actively burning uphill. The first-arriving ground resources immediately began an aggressive initial attack, engaging both flanks of the fire simultaneously. At nearly the same time, a DFPA helicopter arrived overhead and began making water drops near the head of the fire, helping slow its forward progress while ground crews worked the flanks.

Additional resources from Tenmile Fire and DFPA arrived shortly afterward, strengthening the initial attack and continuing suppression efforts. As the incident developed, additional assistance was requested from Lookingglass Rural Fire District and Camas Valley Volunteer Fire District.

Due to the wildfire staffing grants provided by and through the Oregon State Fire Marshal there were six additional firefighters available on shift between three local agencies to assist with supression and control of this fire.

Through the coordinated efforts of all responding agencies, firefighters were able to stop the fire’s forward spread. Crews ultimately completed containment and mop-up operations on the approximately 23-acre fire before the incident was transferred to DFPA and transitioned to patrol status.

No homes or structures were threatened.

The cause of the fire has been determined to be human-caused and remains under active investigation.

Tenmile Rural Fire District committed six apparatus and 12 personnel to the incident.

We would like to thank our partners at Douglas Forest Protective Association, Central Douglas Fire & Rescue, Lookingglass Rural Fire District, and Camas Valley Volunteer Fire District for their quick response, cooperation, and hard work. Wildland incidents like this demonstrate the importance of strong mutual-aid partnerships and coordinated air and ground operations.

πŸš’ Tenmile Firefighters Deployed to The Dalles as part of Task Force 66

Today, two Tenmile RFD firefighters deployed with our water tender as part of Oregon State Fire Marshal (OSFM) Task Force 66, which has been pre-positioned in The Dalles, Oregon, due to forecasted elevated fire danger and increased wildfire potential.

A pre-position assignment places firefighting resources in areas where fire weather conditions indicate an increased risk of significant incidents. By moving personnel and equipment closer to areas of concern before fires start, firefighters can respond more quickly if they’re needed, helping protect lives and property.

Our firefighters are deployed to provide structural fire protection, working alongside our wildland firefighting partners. While wildland firefighters focus on containing and suppressing wildfires, OSFM task forces are specifically assigned to help protect homes, businesses, and other structures threatened by wildfire.

We wish our firefighters a safe deployment and thank them for their dedication to serving communities across Oregon whenever called upon.

Please join us in wishing them a safe assignment! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸš’

πŸ”₯ HEAT ADVISORY TODAY & RED FLAG WARNING WEDNESDAY πŸ”₯

The Tenmile Rural Fire District would like to remind our community that the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for our area today and a Red Flag Warning for Wednesday as hot, dry, and windy conditions continue across Douglas County.

🌑 **Heat Advisory**
β€’ In effect through 11:00 p.m. Wednesday
β€’ High temperatures are expected to reach 96–99 degrees.
β€’ Overnight temperatures will remain warm, ranging from 60–65 degrees.

⚠️ **Red Flag Warning**
β€’ In effect Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
β€’ West to northwest winds of 10–15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph
β€’ Relative humidity levels between 10–15 percent
β€’ Extremely dry and unstable conditions could allow any fire to spread rapidly.

***UPDATED**🚨 The Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) has also announced that the Douglas District will move into **Extreme Fire Danger** beginning Teusday at 12:01 p.m.

Please help us keep our community safe by taking the following precautions:

βœ… Avoid activities that could create sparks.

βœ… Follow all local fire restrictions.

βœ… Stay hydrated and limit time outdoors during the hottest parts of the day.

βœ… Check on family members, neighbors, children, and pets.

βœ… Review your evacuation plan and ensure you are signed up to receive emergency alerts.

A Red Flag Warning does **not** mean there is an active fire. It means conditions are favorable for rapid fire growth if a fire starts.

As always, remember: **One less spark means one less wildfire.**

For additional information, please visit the DFPA page or DFPA.net.

Stay safe,

**Tenmile Rural Fire District**
