SECOND ALARM STRUCTURE FIRE | ORCHARD STREET TERRYVILLE, CT.
Today, at approximately 9:30 a.m., the Terryville Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire on Orchard Street in the Terryville section of Plymouth.
Our Dispatch Center received multiple 911 calls reporting heavy fire and smoke coming from the residence. Based on the severity of these initial reports, a second alarm was transmitted prior to the arrival of the first fire department units, bringing additional personnel and resources to the scene.
Upon arrival (7 minutes after initial dispatch), firefighters encountered a rapidly advancing fire that had originated on the rear deck of the residence and had already extended into the third floor and attic space.
Firefighters immediately initiated an aggressive interior attack, making a strong push to reach the third floor and contain the advancing flames. However, deteriorating fire conditions and concerns over the structural integrity of the roof forced crews to withdraw from the building.
Once all personnel had safely exited the structure, Tower 1 was placed into operation, directing an elevated master stream into the third floor to knock down the heavy volume of fire. This operation significantly reduced fire conditions, allowing firefighters to safely reenter the residence and conduct a more direct interior attack on remaining fire and concealed pockets of burning material.
The fire caused extensive fire and smoke damage to the third floor and attic, along with significant smoke and water damage throughout the first and second floors.
Most importantly, we are pleased to report that NO injuries occurred as a result of this incident.

🏫 A SPECIAL MESSAGE TO FISHER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
To the students and staff of Fisher Elementary School, we owe you an apology!
Our firefighters were looking forward to spending time with you today as part of our Fire Prevention Program. Unfortunately, the fire service has a way of changing plans without much notice, and we had to make a rather unexpected departure.
We promise we haven’t forgotten about you, and we WILL make it up to you!
Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
