Texarkana Resource Day is back for its 5th year 🤲

The Texarkana Homeless Coalition will host its annual Resource Day on Thursday, October 8th, from 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM at Mission Texarkana, 620 W. 4th Street.

Resource Day brings local organizations together in one place to help individuals and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness connect with important services and resources that can often take months to secure.

Services will include:

A little history, inside a whole lot of history! 🇺🇸📜

Yesterday, we welcomed members of the DAR Lone Star Chapter and students from St. James Day School - Texarkana to City Hall in recognition of Constitution Week and the 239th anniversary of the drafting of the United States Constitution.

Mayor Bob Bruggeman joined the group and officially proclaimed September 17th–23rd as Constitution Week in Texarkana, Texas. Constitution Week has been observed nationally for 70 years thanks to the efforts of the Daughters of the American Revolution, who first petitioned Congress in 1955 to establish the annual observance.

We want to thank our local DAR Lone Star Chapter for continuing this tradition in our community and, especially, for involving the next generation in learning about our nation’s history.

Following the proclamation, the students got another history lesson a little closer to home! City Historian Matt Solomon led the group on a tour of our 100-year-old City Hall, sharing stories about the building and Texarkana’s past along the way.

Last night, we celebrated the official opening of our brand-new Rotary Pickleball Courts at the Southwest Center! 🏓👏

This project truly started with our community. Members of the Texarkana Pickleball Club, led by President David Mims, came to the City with a passion for the sport and a desire to create more opportunities for people to play right here in Texarkana. From there, a community-driven idea grew into eight new courts we are proud to officially open!

And it’s easy to see why more space was needed. The Texarkana Pickleball Club’s most recent tournament welcomed 110 players for a two-day event, with many traveling nearly 100 miles to compete in Texarkana.

Whether you’ve been playing pickleball for years or you’re picking up a paddle for the very first time, these courts are for you! We hope they become a place to meet new people and find community while continuing to grow the sport here in Texarkana.

A huge thank you to the Texarkana Pickleball Club and all of the donors and community partners who helped turn this idea into a reality. ❤️

One of our favorite events of the year is right around the corner! National Night Out is coming up on Tuesday, October 6th.

It’s a chance for neighbors to get together, spend some time with each other, and meet their elected officials, members of city staff including the police and fire departments. Last year, we visited about 25 National Night Out parties across the Texas side of town - and we’re hoping to see even more this year.

If you’re planning on hosting a party this year, we’d love to hear about it so we can add you to our list of places to visit that night!

A Triple Crown achievement for our Finance Department 🏆🏆🏆

We’re proud to announce that the City of Texarkana, Texas Finance Department has been named a Triple Crown Winner by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA)! Texarkana is one of just 441 governments to receive the Triple Crown designation earlier this year.

This recognition is awarded to governments that earn all three of GFOA’s major awards for financial reporting, budget presentation and public financial reporting, each requiring organizations to meet high standards for transparency and effectively communicating their financial story.

Congratulations to CFO Kristin Peeples and the entire Finance Department for their hard work and commitment to responsible, transparent financial reporting for our community. đź‘Ź

There were a number of 9/11 remembrance ceremonies across our community today as Texarkana came together to honor the lives lost 25 years ago.

Here are a few photos from today’s ceremonies at Red River Army Depot and the Texarkana Convention Center along with a few from earlier this summer when Texarkana was honored to host the Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s Steel Across America tour.

Thank you to our first responders, service members and everyone across our community who continues to honor the sacrifice and service we remember from September 11, 2001.
