Folks, as wonderful as our little rain shower was yesterday, it wasn’t quite enough to cure the larger dry spell at hand.

Please remember we are still under an active burn ban, county officials will continue to monitor the situation and we will keep you all updated!

This morning our department was paged to a call regarding someone burning during a burn ban. Upon making contact with the home owner, the gentleman ended up being a non-English speaker and therefor was unaware of the ban being in effect. Volunteers were able to translate for the gentleman and provide him resources to keep up with burn updates.

Please remember that the ban is still currently in effect, when lifted we will post an update here and remove the sign outside of the fire department. In the meantime, please help us spread the word to friends and loved ones who may not use technology frequently or don’t have access to news in their native language. Thanks everyone!

For IMMEDIATE RELEASE!!!

09/03/2026

Yesterday shortly after noon the Thackerville Fire Department was paged to the area of Harrell Rd and Old Towne Rd for a reported grassfire.

Upon arrival firefighters found approximately 1/2 acre on fire and with the help of Love County EMS/Fire were able to make a rapid knockdown. The suspected cause was a balloon in the powerlines.

We’d also like to give a special thanks to our friends at Thackerville Police Department and Love County Sheriff Department for controlling the roadways and creating room for crews to work safely!

‼️REMINDER‼️
The burn ban has been renewed for another 14 days. Please let those around you know as well!

The burn ban was renewed for another 14 days this morning at the County Commissioners meeting. Conditions continue to deteriorate and we ask people to be extremely cautious with any activity that might start a fire.

There will be a Prescribed Burn today near New Hope and Oswalt Roads. Prescribed burns when done correctly according to state law are exempt from the burn ban. This is a state statute that county government has no say in.
