87 People lost their lives (many of whom were of Heritage) after Jorge Gonzalez, a Cuban Refugee, set fire to the only known entrance / exit of The Happy Land Social Club in the Bronx.

He was upset after being kicked out of the club after arguing with his ex-girlfriend Lydia Feliciano, who worked as a coat check girl at the club.

Pictured in the article are Thelma Gomez and her family at The 2015 Happy Land Social Club Fire Commemoration. She lost her mother in the fire. Also pictured is my cousin Juan Carlos Colon Jr, who also lost his life in the Fire.
