Our Vollies do AMAZING work - and with 5 different Volunteer Fire Departments in our community, I was proud to stand up and vote to strengthen support and increase the personal income tax credit from $200 to $800 for individuals, and $400 to $1600 for joint filers. Putting money back into the pockets of our Vollies is a small way NYS is saying thank you!

When setting clocks forward for Daylight Saving Time on March 8, 2026, replace batteries in all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to ensure they work properly. This biannual habit helps prevent fire-related injuries and deaths, as working alarms are crucial for early detection. Test alarms monthly and replace units over 10 years old.

Key Safety Checklist:

Change Batteries: Replace batteries in all detectors, even if they are not chirping.

Test Alarms: Press the test button to ensure the alarm sounds.

Check Expiration: Smoke alarms typically need replacement every 10 years, and CO detectors every 5-7 years.

Install Correctly: Ensure alarms are on every level, inside bedrooms, and outside sleeping areas.

Maintain 10-Year Units: For detectors with 10-year sealed batteries, check that they are still within their lifespan.
