Members of The Colony Fire Department, alongside members of our community, gathered to honor and remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

Our Pipes and Drums and Honor Guard helped lead a solemn tribute as we reflected on the nearly 3,000 lives lost that day, including the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice.

At the center of our remembrance is a piece of steel recovered from one of the World Trade Center towers—a lasting and powerful reminder of the lives lost, the bravery shown, and the sacrifices made on that day.

We are grateful to everyone from our community who joined us in remembering the fallen and honoring the first responders who answered the call when our nation needed them most.

We will never forget.

Please join us in congratulating Firefighter Timothy Sandoval for his recognition, and earning of the Leadership Award by The Colony Chamber of Commerce!

FF Sandoval is one of our senior members who consistently steps up whenever there is a job to be done. His positive attitude, flexibility, and willingness to take on any task make him a valuable member of our department.

What truly stands out about FF Sandoval is the impact he has on those around him. His presence pushes others to rise to the occasion, take initiative, and strive to be better.

That commitment extends well beyond our department. FF Sandoval volunteered for two weeks in Kerrville, serving as a sawyer during flood relief efforts and helping communities impacted by the devastating flooding.

Specializing in truck operations and ventilation, FF Sandoval also travels across the country teaching ventilation and truck work, sharing his knowledge and experience with firefighters throughout the fire service.

We’re proud to have senior members like FF Sandoval who continue to serve, teach, lead, and challenge those around them to be better. Thank you, Sandoval, for everything you bring to our department and the fire service!

On the morning of Friday, September 11, 2026, The Colony Fire Department will hold a remembrance ceremony honoring those who lost their lives and those who served 25 years ago during the events of September 11, 2001.

The ceremony will be held at Firehouse 4, 3400 Plano Parkway, near Nebraska Furniture Mart. The ceremony is open to the public and will begin at 7:30 a.m.

This solemn ceremony will include several moments that correspond with the events of September 11, 2001. The program will include dispatch tones marking the times the North and South Towers were struck, a tolling of the bells using an FDNY bell salvaged from an engine, and multiple Changing of the Guards.
The 5-5-5 bell signal will honor the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as the many other lives lost that day.
The Colony Fire Honor Guard and Police Honor Guard will stand watch beside a piece of World Trade Center steel throughout the ceremony.
Community members are welcome to attend for the entire ceremony or for any portion of the morning. You may bring a lawn chair, although a limited number of chairs will also be available.
Throughout the morning, visitors are welcome to walk through the memorial area, view and touch the World Trade Center steel, and learn more about its history and the memorial site. This memorial is always open to the citizens of The Colony and the general public.

Ceremony Schedule:
6:30 a.m. – Honor Guard members lower the flag at sunrise in remembrance.
7:30 a.m. – The remembrance ceremony begins. Six members of The Colony Pipes & Drums take their places in front of the flags.
7:32 a.m. – The band performs the “American Set,” including Shenandoah, America the Beautiful, and the Marine Corps Hymn. The performance will last approximately three minutes while three TCFD Honor Guard members post.

7:51 a.m. – Changing of the Guard, followed by remarks about the remainder of the ceremony.
8:01 a.m. – Changing of the Guard.
8:03 a.m. – Dispatch tones sound to mark the impact of United Airlines Flight 175 into the South Tower.
8:05 a.m. – AO Steven Southard tolls the FDNY bell with the 5-5-5 signal in honor of the firefighters who lost their lives.

8:09 a.m. – Firefighter Wardlaw performs Amazing Grace. The band joins after the first round, followed by a second performance as the musicians depart. The Honor Guard Commander then pulls the final watch.
8:12 a.m. – Chief Stephens delivers closing remarks, remembering those lost at the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania, as well as the countless first responders, military members, and civilians who have died in the years since as a result of the events of September 11.

We respectfully invite the community to join us as we pause to remember, honor, and reflect on the lives lost and the courage shown on September 11, 2001.

WE WILL NEVER FORGET.

A county-wide burn ban is in effect beginning today, Aug. 25, 2026, for all of Denton County, including The Colony.

The burn ban prohibits all outdoor burning and also includes restrictions on:
🚫 Outdoor hot work, including welding and cutting torch operations
🚫 The use of certain combustible materials
🚫 Other activities identified in the burn ban order that may create an increased fire hazard

Dry conditions across Denton County have significantly increased the risk of rapidly spreading wildfires, even with today's brief showers.

Everyone is encouraged to use extreme caution with any activity that could produce heat, sparks, or open flame.

Please visit the Denton County Fire Marshal's Office's website for specific information regarding restrictions, requirements, and exceptions under the burn ban: dentoncounty.gov/210/Fire-Marshal

Help us protect our communities, property, and first responders by doing your part to prevent wildfires.

TCFD Concludes Search Operation

The Colony, Texas – At approximately 7:35 a.m. on Aug. 24, 2026, The Colony Police Department (TCPD) responded to a call for a missing person. Shortly after, a family member located the missing person’s shoes near the shoreline of Lake Lewisville. The Colony Fire Department (TCFD) was then called in to assist in the search operation on water.

TCFD Units Battalion 1, Squad 18, and Medic 13, along with mutual aid units from the Lewisville Fire Department (LFD), used sonar-equipped boats to support search efforts. LFD boats deployed to scan the area where the shoes were initially located.

After extensive search efforts, sonar spotted an item of interest, divers were deployed, and a body was recovered.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family during this difficult time.

We appreciate the assistance from all agencies who supported this call, including the Lewisville Fire Department, Texas Game Wardens, and the Denton County Medical Examiner’s Office.

A huge thank you to Nebraska Furniture Mart!

This past week, Nebraska Furniture Mart generously donated 12 pallets of bottled water to The Colony Fire Department. With the Texas summer heat in full swing, this donation couldn't have come at a better time.

We are grateful for their generosity and continued support of our firefighters and paramedics.
