A NIGHT OF PRIDE, HONOR & BROTHERHOOD !!!

Last night was a very special and emotional night for the St. John Volunteer Fire Department as three of our very own were honored with Lifesaving Awards at the Lafourche Pride Banquet.

🔥 Firefighter Rhett Oncale
🔥 Lieutenant Josh Delery
🔥 Captain Don Gomez

There are moments in this profession when training, courage, and instinct come together . Moments when a firefighter has to step forward and do whatever it takes to save a life. These three men answered that call.

As Fire Chief, there are few things that make me prouder than seeing our firefighters recognized for their courage and dedication. But beyond the awards and recognition, what means the most is knowing that Rhett, Josh, and Don were there when our community needed them most.

Their actions are a powerful reminder of what the fire service truly represents !!! Serving others, protecting our community, standing beside one another, and never hesitating to run toward a dangerous situation that others are running from.

To Rhett, Josh, and Don :

“ Thank You “ for professionally representing our department & Congratulations on this well-deserved recognization. It is a true honor to serve alongside each of you.

25 Years Later & We Will Never Forget !!! 👩🏼‍🚒❤️👩🏼‍🚒

On September 11th, 2001 our nation was forever changed.

Today, the St. John Volunteer Fire Department honors the lives lost, the families who continue to carry their memories, and the first responders who answered the call with extraordinary courage and sacrifice.

Twenty-five years later, their example continues to remind us of the meaning of service and the responsibility we carry when we answer the call.

We remember, We honor, & We Never Forget 🇺🇸 !!!

As a fire department, St. John host multiple training opportunities a month for its members. This allows us to ensure our community is served to the best of our ability. Tonight’s training involved learning about how solar panels work. This training is crucial for our fire fighters to know how to safely de-energize a system and isolate electrical currents to protect not only the involved structure but also the electrical grid. As they become more popular, safe handling of solar panels is important for firefighter safety, public safety, and effective fire suppression efforts.

We cannot thank senior technician Brandon Landry with Omnidian Solar for sharing his time and knowledge with our department tonight.

Also in attendance tonight were members from Chackbay and Labadieville fire departments.

On Friday, August 14th 2026 at 6:20 P.M. the St. John Volunteer Fire Deptartment was dispatched to a structure fire at 112 Ridgeway Street in the Marydale Community.

Upon arrival, firefighters were met with moderate smoke & fire conditions emitting from the rear of the structure.

Firefighters then went to work and properly extinguished the fire with no injuries reported to the on scene firemen. The fire scene was brought under control at 7:02 P.M. forty two ( 42 ) minutes after arriving on the scene.

A total of 35 firefighters, 2 Engines, 1 Tanker, 2 Services Trucks and Two Chief Officers responded to the structure fire incident from the St. John Volunteer Fire Department.

Fire department officials have determined that the built over mobile home was not occupied & under a re-model / construction at the time of the fire !!!

The St. John Volunteer Fire Department would like to extend a sincere “ Thank You “ to the 12 Members of the Chackbay Volunteer Fire Department’s Strike Team who provided assistance with this emergency response operation. Their hard work & professionalism was on display throughout the operation and is greatly appreciated.

As always the St. John Volunteer Fire Deptartment would like to commend our dedicated volunteers for their outstanding dedication of keeping our community safe.
