Red Alert 🚨 : We need help assisting one of our own firefighters!! Chardon Firefighter / Paramedic Dominic Shea (also a full-time Parma firefighter) has been battling melanoma since 2022. Despite his strong fight, the cancer has now metastasized to his brain and is considered stage IV. Please join us for a benefit dinner to help support Dominic and his wife, Jess, through their journey. All proceeds will go directly to the Shea family.

Dominic’s father, Kevin, was a Chardon firefighter for many years. They are all part of our “fire family”. Please help us help them. If you can’t attend the dinner in Parma, consider simply donating. Contact one of the firefighters on the flyer for more info.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Thompson Fire Department Awarded FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant for New Brush Truck Skid Unit

Thompson, Ohio — September 25, 2026 — The Thompson Fire Department is pleased to announce that it has been awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Grant funding will be used to purchase a new slide-in skid unit for the department’s brush truck.

The new skid unit will replace aging equipment and enhance the department’s ability to respond safely and effectively to brush, grass, field, and wildland fires. The unit will improve water delivery and fire-suppression capabilities, allowing firefighters to deploy quickly in areas where larger fire apparatus may have limited access.

The AFG program provides federal funding to help fire departments obtain critical equipment, training, and resources needed to protect firefighters and the communities they serve. This award will help ensure Thompson Fire Department personnel have dependable, modern equipment to support efficient fire suppression operations and improve firefighter safety.

Receiving this grant is an important investment in our firefighters' safety and the safety of the residents we serve. The new skid unit will improve our operational capability during brush and wildland fire incidents while replacing equipment that has reached the end of its useful service life.

The Thompson Fire Department sincerely appreciates FEMA and the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program for supporting local emergency services. The department looks forward to placing the new skid unit into service and continuing its commitment to protecting the Thompson community.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of one of our own, Brooke Jewell. She died this morning as a result of injuries sustained in a single-vehicle accident.

Although Brooke was with the department for a short time, she made a meaningful and lasting impact on those who had the privilege to serve alongside her. She will be deeply missed.
