Visitors to Anythink Brighton Library this month are invited to take a journey with two community ofrendas on display.

In celebration of Día de los Mu***os, the ofrendas by artist are an invitation to the community to “honor their ancestors in any way they see fit,” said Val Ponce Najera, Duran’s apprentice. Library visitors are invited to bring in in notes, photos or items in remembrance of those who have passed away.

“We try to highlight the joy of knowing that we are connected to our ancestors,” Ponce Najera said. “Especially during this time, we have the opportunity to commune with them, and not only with our ancestors, but (with) the community around us.”

🌿 What happens when you give people free access to nature exploration tools, outdoor learning opportunities and a welcoming place to start?

In a recent Guardian feature, five Colorado residents share how they used the Anythink Nature Library to explore the outdoors in new ways, from checking out nature kits to discovering new hobbies and experiences close to home. The article highlights their stories and the many ways people are connecting with nature through the library.

We're grateful to everyone who has visited, explored and made the Nature Library part of their journey.

What happens when young people who love the outdoors visit a library designed to connect people with nature?

Recently, the Anythink Nature Library welcomed participants from Camping to Connect for a special tour exploring trails, gardens, hands-on learning spaces and all the ways a library can inspire curiosity beyond its walls. The visit was featured by Colorado Public Radio’s Colorado Matters show as part of a story about this special community resource.

We're grateful to the Camping to Connect team for spending the day with us and reminding us that some of the best learning happens when we explore together.

Today, we visit a library where you don't just check out books, you check out nature. The new Anythink Nature Library is touted as the first of its kind in the nation. The $43 million, 33,000 square foot facility sits on 15 acres in Adams County adjacent to the 140 acre Aylor Open Space and includes...

📷 by : PROJECT UPDATE | Anythink Nature Library, Colorado's First Public Nature Library Get's a Renewable Power Boost from Namaste Solar

The 203.5-kilowatt solar system is expected to generate about half of the library's electricity while delivering more than $1 million in lifetime savings through lower utility costs and federal clean energy incentives.

A library dedicated to helping people connect with nature is now drawing on nature itself to help power its mission. Namaste Solar has completed a rooftop solar installation at Anythink Nature Library, Colorado's first public nature library, at 6811 E. 136th Ave. in Thornton. Operated by Rangeview Library District, the library opened Aug. 8. The 203.5-kilowatt system is expected to generate about half of the facility's electricity. By helping lower the building's ongoing energy expenses, the solar project helps preserve resources that advance the library's mission of environmental education, community experiences and lifelong learning. Our first read? “Sunrise on the Reaping” by Suzanne Collins. Read it with us before catching the new film adaption!

The first meeting will be from 4 – 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11 at Anythink Thornton Community Center Library.
