I am so proud to announce that a group of our 5th grade students have been awarded a $250 grant from the Colorado Afterschool Partnership to "Shine a Light" on our afterschool program!

Way to go Leo, Dramir, Chase, Rowan, Daria, & Reginna for putting together a proposal and planning activities to share at our upcoming Club Innovation meetings & the family night event on Tuesday October 27th!

Our students designed the following activities to share in celebration of our afterschool program:

Leo, Dramir, & Chase: Designed a prototype for a 3D printed flashlight to create and share.

Rowan: Planning to host a mini talent show with Club Innovation and STEM Launch Students.

Daria & Reginna: Planning to lead a chemistry experiment (Elephant Toothpaste) at Club Innovation and as a demonstration at the family night event.

We are SO proud of our 5th grade students leading the way to celebrate our afterschool program and can't wait to see their finished products and activities!

During the October 27th Family Night, we will also be showcasing student Data Art projects that they have been putting together over the last few weeks at Club. Students have been working hard to make sense of real scientific data and turn it into visual art for others to see! We hope to see many Club Innovation families at this fun, free event to celebrate our student accomplishments.

If you haven't already RSVP'd for the event on 10/27, please use the link below to register so we can plan accordingly when ordering dinner for attendees. The event goes from 5:00-7:00 PM and includes free dinner from 5:00-5:30 and free activities in the gym and classrooms from 5:30 - 7:00.

๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿฆฌ๐Ÿ’ง Ecosystem Engineers are taking their learning OUTSIDE the classroom! ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ”ฌ

What a week of hands-on STEM learning at STEM Launch! Our students werenโ€™t just reading about ecosystems, watersheds, and environmental systems โ€” they were out in the field experiencing them firsthand.

๐Ÿฆฌ 7th Grade headed to Daniels Park, where students explored Coloradoโ€™s grassland ecosystem up close. They connected their classroom learning about bison, shortgrass prairie, decomposers, and the relationships that keep an ecosystem functioning to the real environment around them.

๐Ÿ’ง 4th Grade became watershed investigators! Before heading to Overland Pond for their SPREE (South Platte River Environmental Education) experience, students first took a walking field experience right here around STEM Launch and Niver Creek. They observed our local environment, looked at how water moves through our community, and built background knowledge they could carry with them to the South Platte River.

And THAT is what field experiences at STEM Launch are all about. โค๏ธ

Students get to investigate real places, ask real questions, learn alongside community experts, and connect what happens in the classroom to the world around them. Most importantly, they begin to see themselves as people who can understand, protect, and improve the ecosystems in their own community.

๐ŸŒŽ One school. Multiple ecosystems. A whole lot of curious Ecosystem Engineers! ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’ง๐Ÿฆฌ

Today, we had a special visit from the Northglenn High School Spirit Tour as they brought their Homecoming excitement to STEM Launch! ๐ŸŽถ

The band, color guard, athletes, and cheerleaders filled our hallways with music, energy, school spirit, and plenty of smiles during their traditional Homecoming Spirit Parade! Our students had a blast cheering them on as they made their way through the school.

A huge THANK YOU to Northglenn High School for including STEM Launch in this awesome Homecoming tradition and sharing your Norse spirit with our Crew! ๐Ÿฅ

A is for AMAZING! ๐ŸŽ‰

This morning, our Kinder students proudly showed off their learning during our Kinder ABC Parade! ๐ŸŒŸ Each student decorated a paper vest featuring a letter of the alphabet and paraded through the halls to celebrate all theyโ€™ve learned!

Our wonderful STEM Launch students lined the hallways to cheer on our littlest learners, making the celebration even more special. ๐Ÿ‘

We loved seeing the smiles, creativity, and school spirit throughout the halls. Way to go, Kinder! You are ABC-tastic! โค๏ธ

๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿฆ‹๐Ÿ **BIG DISCOVERIES AT NIVER CREEK!** ๐Ÿ›๐ŸŒผ๐Ÿ”Ž

Our STEM Ambassadors recently joined staff and volunteers from the Butterfly Pavilion for a BioBlitz right in our own backyard at Niver Creek! Students headed outside as real community scientists, identifying insects and plants and documenting what is living in our local ecosystem.

And when we went back through our observations, we discovered something REALLY cool! ๐Ÿคฏ Several of the plants students documented are included on the National Wildlife Federationโ€™s Keystone Native Plants list for the Great Plainsโ€”plants that can play an especially important role in supporting insects and the larger food web.

๐ŸŒฟ Willow (Salix): supports 214 caterpillar species + 20 pollen-specialist bee species
๐ŸŒผ Goldenrod (Solidago): 71 caterpillar species + 56 pollen-specialist bee species
๐ŸŒธ Aster (Symphyotrichum): 7 caterpillar species + 43 pollen-specialist bee species
๐ŸŒฟ Rubber Rabbitbrush (Ericameria):41 pollen-specialist bee species

Even better, our students uploaded their observations to **iNaturalist**, where they can contribute to our **Adams 12 Five Star Schools Pollinator Pathway** project! ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐ŸŒŽ

And this was only our **first BioBlitz!** Students can continue watching for other important Colorado plants like sunflowers, black-eyed Susans, blanketflowers, prairie coneflowers, prairie clover, evening primrose and more.

This is what being an **Ecosystem Engineer** is all about: getting outside, asking questions, collecting real data, and discovering how one plant can have a BIG impact on an entire food web. ๐ŸŒฑโžก๏ธ๐Ÿ›โžก๏ธ๐Ÿฆ‹โžก๏ธ๐Ÿฆ

Underground Spirit Week brought us a genuine moment of connection! ๐Ÿ™Œโšฝ Jersey Day gave our teachers another fun way to bond with our students, and we love seeing Principal Tracey sharing those moments with our middle schoolers who wanted a picture with Lewandowski ๐Ÿ’™ Itโ€™s these little moments that make our STEM Launch family so special! ๐Ÿปโœจ
