Imagine waking up, rolling out of bed and turning on the tap to fill your coffee pot.

Nothing happens.

No morning coffee. No shower. No flushing toilet. No water to drink.

You walk your kids to school and look for the family of geese living in the pond.

Only the pond is empty.

You think about the fire department around the corner, the hospital across the street, the animal shelter in the next town, and the family restaurant you visit every Friday.

Every day, pipes, reservoirs, treatment plants, hydrants, meters, and employees work together to bring water to our customers to fulfill essential community needs. Join us and today to celebrate Imagine a Day Without Water and take a moment to appreciate the water that makes our everyday lives possible.

Sweater weather has arrived! 🍁🧣

While you're preparing for winter, so is your garden. You may have noticed your lawn turning green again the past few weeks – that is because cool-season grasses like Kentucky Bluegrass do their best recovery and growing during cooler weather. As the days shorten, your grass will begin to enter dormancy and will require less water. Support this natural cycle by turning off your grass irrigation this month and focusing your watering on your trees and shrubs instead.

For every three weeks without precipitation in the winter:

🌳 Water trees with 10 gallons of water per inch of the tree’s trunk diameter.

🌾 Water plants and shrubs with between 5 and 10 gallons of water, depending on the size of the plant.

This October, watch out for some of the things that really scare us at Thornton Water: leaky faucets, constantly running toilets, and unnecessary runoff.

Because nothing is scarier than wasting water without knowing it. 🎃💧
