Unfortunately, we’re losing another great captain. Captain Chuck Schultz will be taking a well deserved retirement.

What an unforgettable day at the Thornton Fire Department Open House yesterday! The Village of Thornton hosted their Fall Fest and Thornton Fire Department Local 5512 participated by giving attendees a tour of the firehouse and apparatuses! We also had an EMS station where guest had the chance to practice CPR and learn about emergency responses. In addition, we included an auto extraction demonstration. During the fest, Local 5512 did a 50/50 split the pot raffle and picked the winner on Facebook live this morning.
A huge thank you to the crew and everyone that participated and helped make this open house a great one. We’re grateful for the opportunity to connect with our residents, strengthen community relationships, and be part of the events that bring us all together. Can’t wait to see everyone again next year!

The Thornton Fire Department would like to proudly congratulate Captain Maureen Schweitzer on her retirement. After 24 years, we honor her dedicated service to the fire department and the community.

Throughout her career she has made a lasting impact, not only on the community she has served, but also on the firefighters and personnel who have had the privilege of working alongside her. The lessons taught, the memories made, and the lives touched will always be a part of her legacy. As President of Local 5512, she has also devoted her time and energy to representing her fellow firefighters and advocating for her union brothers and sisters. As she closes this chapter and begins a well-deserved retirement, we hope she looks back on her career with immense pride. 24 years of service is an incredible accomplishment, and the difference she has made will continue to be felt long after her final shift.

Captain Mo you have served with honor, led with heart and left a legacy worth celebrating. Thank you for everything you have given to this department, this union, and this community. Enjoy every moment of the retirement you have so rightfully earned. As a final meaningful tribute, Captain Schweitzer was given a ride home in Engine 45.

Congratulations, Capt.! Happy Retirement!

This morning we took the opportunity to stand with our police to honor and remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, who made the ultimate sacrifice while answering the call.

25 years have passed, but the impact of that day continues to be felt across our country, our communities, and especially within the fire service. We honor the victims, their families, the survivors, and all those whose lives were forever changed. It becomes even more important that we continue to tell their stories, remember their sacrifices, and carry their legacy forward. May we never forget those we lost, those who ran toward danger to help others, and the strength shown in the days that followed.
