🎃👻 Happy Halloween from the Thurmont Police Department! 🎃👻

Trick-or-Treat in Thurmont will be held tonight, Saturday, October 31st, from 6:00-7:30pm.

Help keep our little ghosts and goblins safe with these Halloween safety reminders:

- Accompany young children while trick-or-treating and visit only well-lit homes.
- Use sidewalks and crosswalks, look both ways before crossing, and walk, don’t run.
- Put electronic devices away and keep your eyes on your surroundings.
- Choose costumes that fit properly, allow clear vision, and include reflective materials or glow sticks. Carry a flashlight to help others see you.
- Check all treats before children eat them. When in doubt, throw it out!
- Motorists: Slow down, use extra caution in residential neighborhoods, and watch for children crossing between parked cars.

If you see something suspicious, say something. Call 911 for emergencies or immediate danger.

Have a safe and spook-tacular Halloween! 🧡🖤

🍂 Colorfest Yard Sale Reminders 🍂

Colorfest is almost here, and that means yard sales throughout Thurmont this week! The Thurmont Police Department asks everyone to help keep our streets safe and traffic moving smoothly.

Parking: If you’re hosting a yard sale, please ensure visitors have a safe, legal place to park. Vehicles must not block streets or create traffic hazards. Posted “No Parking” areas will be strictly enforced. All streets must remain open for emergency vehicles and general traffic.

Signs: Yard sale and other advertising signs are prohibited on traffic control devices, including stop signs and speed limit signs, as well as light poles. All signs must be placed on their own stakes.

Please remove your signs when your yard sale ends. Improperly placed signs will be removed and will not be returned.

Thank you for helping keep Thurmont safe and accessible during Colorfest week!

Ms. Fay has been safely crossing Thurmont students for an incredible 37 years.

This school year, she noticed a fourth-grade student at Thurmont Elementary School riding to school on a bicycle that was much too small for him. Concerned, Ms. Fay approached Chief Armstrong of the Thurmont Police Department and asked if there was something that could be done to help get the student a properly sized bicycle.

Chief Armstrong was able to locate an anonymous donor who generously purchased a brand-new bicycle and helmet for the student.

Today, Ms. Fay surprised the young man with his new bicycle as he came through her intersection while walking home from school. After a quick tutorial on his new bike, he was off and riding home, cheered on by three of his friends who were excited that he now had a bike the same size as theirs.

The Thurmont Police Department and the Town of Thurmont would like to thank the anonymous donor for their generosity and recognize Ms. Fay for her 37 years of service, dedication, and genuine concern for the children of our community.

Ms. Fay is truly a Thurmont treasure!

Municipal Parking Lot Project Update:

⚠️ This is to provide an update on the parking lot improvements project currently underway in the Municipal Parking Lot on South Center Street.

🚧 Unfortunately, weather and other delays have prolonged the project a bit longer than we had originally hoped. However, if all continues as planned, the parking lot will be re-opened next week. Contractors finished the concrete work today. Paving is scheduled for Thursday and Friday. Striping is scheduled for the beginning of next week. Once the striping has had time to set up, the lot will be re-opened. Installation of landscaping, benches, etc. will occur simultaneously or may even occur after the lot is opened.

🛑 As a very important reminder – the intersection of Park Lane and South Center Street will now have a full stop sign for vehicles traveling on South Center Street. This replaces the former sign which permitted right turns without stopping from South Center Street onto Park Lane.

🛑 Drivers and pedestrians are encouraged to pay close attention at this intersection until everyone becomes familiar with the new traffic pattern. The traffic pattern for vehicles approaching this intersection from Water Street remains as is.

😊 Thanks to everyone for their patience and understanding while this project has been in progress.
