GOLDEN RULE
Kindness Citation TPD-00159
The City of Tillamook recently adopted a new ordinance prohibiting the parking and storage of RVs, trailers, utility trailers, and similar vehicles on public streets and rights-of-way. Recently Tillamook Police Officer Moreland was patrolling when he came across a utility trailer with an ATV loaded on it that was parked along the street.
He contacted the homeowner and had a great conversation with him. He explained the new ordinance. The trailer owner was very understanding and advised Officer Moreland that he would come up with a plan within the next week to relocate the trailer.
As Officer Moreland was walking back to his patrol vehicle, he was flagged down by a neighbor from across the street who introduced herself as Jennifer. Jennifer asked if he had been speaking with her neighbor about the trailer. He explained that he had and without hesitation, Jennifer said, “He can park it on my property.”
She went on to explain that this is what neighbors do—they help one another during times of need, and when the opportunity comes, they return the favor.
That simple statement and immediate willingness to help stood out to Officer Moreland. Jennifer’s act of kindness and selflessness, regardless of how big or small it may seem, is exactly why she received a Kindness Citation.
Officer Moreland shared, “Growing up, this type of neighborly connection seemed much more common. There was a strong sense of community — neighbors knew one another, looked out for each other, and stepped up when someone needed a hand. Today, it can sometimes feel as though we have lost a little bit of that, with many people not even knowing the names of the people who live next door. Jennifer reminded us that the spirit of community is still very much alive in Tillamook.”
Thank you, Jennifer, for being a great neighbor and for demonstrating what kindness, generosity, and community are all about! Officer Moreland was honored to issue you a Kindness Citation!
