September 11th is a day that will forever hold a profound place in our hearts.

25 years ago, our nation experienced and unimaginable loss on September 11, 2001. We remember the thousands of lives lost, the first responders who answered the call, and the families who continue to carry their memories. We will never forget.

But for our fire department, this carries another heartbreaking meaning. Nine years ago, on this same day, we lost one of our own, Captain Justin Scharschu.

Two moments in history, separated by 16 years, yet forever connected by one date. A day of remembrance for so many, and a day of personal loss for our department.

Today, we honor them all β€” those we lost on 9/11 and our own who answered the call throughout the years.

25 years remembered. 9 years missed. Forever in our hearts. πŸš’πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ•ŠοΈ

The Tillson Volunteer Fire Department extends its deepest sympathies to the family of Dave and his colleagues. We appreciate his extensive experience as a fire instructor and firefighter in Ulster County.

Today, the members of the Spring Lake Fire Department pause to honor the life and legacy of one of our own, Dave Allen.

For 49 years, our departed brother served the Spring Lake Fire Department with unwavering dedication, generosity, and selflessness. Nearly five decades of answering the call, mentoring fellow firefighters, serving our community, and putting others before themselves is a legacy that will never be forgotten.

Dave's commitment helped shape our department and inspired generations of firefighters who had the privilege of serving alongside him. We are profoundly grateful for the time, sacrifice, and countless acts of service he gave to our department and to the community he loved.

To Dave's family and loved ones, we extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt gratitude for sharing him with us for so many years.

Rest easy. Your watch is over. We will take it from here.

Thank you for 49 years of faithful service. You will forever remain a part of the Spring Lake Fire Department family.
