Congratulations, Ben! He joined us as a teen and is part of our award-winning Explorers team that took home nearly every trophy at the County championships. Then, when Ben turned 18, he became a firefighter, graduated from the Fire Academy, and is serving our borough at Northside Engine Co. #4. Plus, he stayed on as as Adult Leader with the Explorer program, bringing a level of knowledge from multiple angles.
Last night, Ben told us that he has been accepted into the US Naval Academy and leaves in 10 days. We're going to miss him, but he is on to greater opportunities and they got a wonderful person. We're proud of all of our Explorers, and Ben is the second from our group to be accepted into the Naval Academy. Others have gone to the US Marine Corps, the US Coast Guard, and other branches of service, serving our nation.
Many have become firefighters, serving our community and other places, too. Some have moved into law enforcement. This is an amazing program, allowing us to work with tomorrow's leaders, working with some incredible young men and women who are part of being something larger than themselves. They give more back to the world than they take from it. It is an honor to work with them.
