Life Saving Award – Officer Shaun Wilson - Presented on May 17th, 2026
It’s not every day that an officer is called upon to make a split-second decision that places their own safety at risk to save the life of another—but on the morning of December 28, 2025, Officer Shaun Wilson did exactly that.
On December 28, 2025, at approximately 8am, Officer Shaun Wilson responded alongside fellow officers to a mutual aid call in the City of Fall River for a report of a male subject lying on the ice in the middle of Sawdy Pond. The situation was critical from the outset—information relayed through 911 indicated the individual was experiencing suicidal ideations and was unresponsive on the ice, approximately 75 feet from shore.
Upon arrival, officers observed a male party lying motionless on the frozen pond. With time working against them and the unpredictability of the ice posing a significant and immediate danger, Officer Wilson made the courageous decision to act.
Without hesitation, and with full awareness of the risks involved, Officer Wilson advanced onto the ice in an effort to reach the distressed male. Equipped only with a survival rope and relying on the support of his fellow officers, Officer Wilson carefully made his way across the unstable surface. Upon reaching the individual on the ice—who was unresponsive and vulnerable—Officer Wilson secured the rope around him, ensuring that he could be safely retrieved.
Working in coordination with Officer Constantino, who anchored the line, Officer Wilson and assisting personnel were able to pull the male toward shore. Their swift, decisive, and coordinated efforts ultimately led to the unresponsive male being brought safely to land, where he was transferred to awaiting emergency medical personnel and transported for further care.
Officer Wilson’s actions that morning exemplify the highest standards of law enforcement service—demonstrating courage under pressure, selflessness in the face of danger, and an unwavering commitment to preserving human life. His willingness to put himself at risk on unstable ice, armed with limited resources, speaks volumes about his character and dedication to duty.
Because of Officer Wilson’s heroic and life-saving actions, a life was preserved, and a family was spared unimaginable loss.
It was with great pride and respect that the Life Saving Award be presented to Officer Shaun Wilson for his bravery, professionalism, and extraordinary commitment to the safety and well-being of others.
Great job Officer Wilson!
