🥎 1st Annual I.B.P.O. Local #406 Charity Softball Classic & Tiverton Police Department National Night Out Recap 🇺🇸
On August 29, 2026, I.B.P.O. Local #406 proudly hosted its 1st Annual Charity Softball Classic in conjunction with the Tiverton Police Department’s National Night Out. The event benefited the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and honored the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks.
The tournament opened with the Bristol Police Department taking on our own Tiverton VFW. After Bristol jumped out to an early lead, the VFW battled back and made it a close contest before Bristol ultimately secured the victory.
Game two featured the Coventry Police Department against Acushnet Public Safety, with Coventry earning a decisive win. In the semifinal round, Bristol PD defeated the Tiverton Fire Department, while Coventry PD advanced past the Tiverton Police Department—setting up a highly competitive championship game.
In the end, Bristol PD edged Coventry PD, 12–11, to become the inaugural I.B.P.O. Local #406 Charity Softball Classic champions! Bristol took home a custom-made championship cornhole-board set created by Well Dunn Boards.
🚒 Battle of the Badges 🚓
The day’s main event was the annual Battle of the Badges between the Tiverton Police Department and the Tiverton Fire Department.
The opening ceremony began with a pipe and drum corps marching onto the field while performing a selection of patriotic Americana music. Players from Tiverton Police and Tiverton Fire lined the field in a V-shaped formation, extending from home plate toward first and third base, as Officer Justin Simmons performed the National Anthem.
Following the anthem, a moment of silence was observed in honor of the victims of the September 11 attacks. The pipe and drum corps then delivered a moving performance of “Amazing Grace.”
Before the game began, a local veteran was given the honor of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. A coin toss was then held to determine the home and visiting teams.
Tiverton PD hoped to capture back-to-back championships, but Tiverton Fire’s bats came alive early. TFD earned a 23–12 victory and reclaimed the Battle of the Badges trophy! The Tiverton Fire Department now has a 3-2 advantage over TPD in its fifth year of the annual series.
Throughout the day, children and families enjoyed a bounce house and obstacle course, a children’s craft table, face painting, carnival-style snacks, and Del’s Lemonade. Those who supported the fundraiser also had an opportunity to spin TPD’s Wheel of Mystery and win prizes.
Players, families, and spectators were treated to a free community cookout featuring hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, bottled water, and watermelon.
