Composting > Landfill

Make sure to stop by Wildwood Environmental Academy to pitch your pumpkins.

If you don't live close to the school, here are some additional locations where you can pitch those pumpkins:

Starting Sunday, November 1st, and ending Sunday, December 6th, we are accepting pumpkins and gourds for composting.

The old Andersons building - 530 Illinois Ave, Maumee
Sylvania Twp Hall - 4927 N. Holland Sylvania Rd, Sylvania
Oregon Senior Center - 4350 Navarre Ave, Oregon
Clean Toledo Recycling Center - 3900 Creekside Ave, Toledo

Wildwood is hosting a pumpkin drop-off spot this year! If you have pumpkins, squash, or other plant/fruit/veggie-type Fall decor, please drop them off in our designated bins! They are next to our dumpsters, right past our Dartford building and as your pulling up to our Henthorne building.

Organic material in landfills such as veggies, fruits, or pumpkins creates harmful climate pollutants as it decomposes because it has no access to oxygen (it gets buried in trash).

Wasted food is responsible for 58% of landfill methane emissions. With this small project, we can help bring those percentages down and help our planet! All pumpkins in bins will be properly composted 🎃

Thank you for helping us make small changes with big impact!

📋 Do I need permits to install solar?

Yes, there are steps you'll need to take before your solar system can begin operating.

Depending on where your property is located, you may need building or electrical permits, inspections, utility approval, and compliance with local requirements.

The process can vary depending on where you live in Lucas County.

The Lucas County Guide to Solar brings together local permitting and inspection information to help you understand where to start.

⚡ What happens when my solar panels produce more electricity than I use?

Your solar system won't produce the same amount of electricity every hour of every day.

When your system produces more electricity than you are using, that excess electricity may be sent back to the electric grid. Depending on your electric utility and rate plan, you may be eligible for a credit or other arrangement for that electricity.

For most Lucas County residents, this means understanding how the process works with Toledo Edison, but your electric utility is the best source for the rules that apply to your property.

📍 The Lucas County Guide to Solar explains the grid connection process and what to ask your utility.

💰 How much does solar really cost?

That's a harder question to answer than it sounds.

The cost of a solar system can vary based on its size, equipment, property, installation requirements, and other factors. Financing can also change how the cost is structured over time.

If you're comparing solar proposals, don't look only at the monthly payment. Make sure you understand the total cost, what is included, warranties, maintenance responsibilities, and the terms of the agreement.

The Lucas County Guide to Solar explains the major financing options and questions to consider before signing a contract.
