It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that the Tompkinsville Police Department mourns the loss of Kentucky State Police Trooper Hayden Phillips, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty on September 28, 2026.

Today, we join our brothers and sisters of the Kentucky State Police, Trooper Phillips’ family, friends, and fellow law enforcement officers across the Commonwealth in honoring a life dedicated to service, courage, and protecting others. His commitment to the citizens of Kentucky will never be forgotten.

The badge is more than a symbol—it is a promise to stand between danger and those we serve. Trooper Phillips fulfilled that promise with honor. While words cannot ease the pain felt by those who loved him, we hope they find comfort in knowing his sacrifice will forever be remembered.

We ask our community to keep Trooper Phillips’ family, his KSP family, and all affected by this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

End of Watch: September 28, 2026

Rest easy, Trooper Phillips. We have the watch from here.

On 06/03/2026, CPT. Ty Hammer received radio traffic from Kentucky State Police Post 15 advising they had been involved in a vehicle pursuit on Highway 163. KSP advised the pursuit was terminated upon entering the city limits of Tompkinsville; however, the suspect vehicle continued to operate recklessly within the city limits at speeds exceeding 100 MPH.

CPT. Hammer observed the suspect vehicle enter the Taco Bell parking lot and exit through the rear driveway onto Columbia Avenue. Officers with the Tompkinsville Police Department and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office initiated a pursuit of the suspect vehicle on Columbia Avenue. During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle reached speeds of approximately 80 MPH and was observed improperly passing two vehicles in a no-passing zone while facing oncoming traffic.

Monroe County EMS responded to the scene and evaluated all involved parties. All injured individuals were transported to Monroe County Medical Center for treatment and were later released with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the suspect vehicle was later identified as Amanda Sanchez.

Over the course of 2025, the Tompkinsville Police Department was able to secure $34,850 in grant funding through Homeland Security, LEPP, and the BRADD program. Through these grants, TPD was able to purchase new equipment for each officer, including new Level IV ballistic vests, Level IV ballistic helmets, and new duty handguns equipped with red dot optics.

TPD would like to thank each of these grant programs for their continued support, as well as Gamaliel Shooting Supply for supplying the department with the new handguns and the am******on needed to help keep our officers properly trained and prepared to better serve the Tompkinsville community.

During the 2026 fiscal year, the Tompkinsville Police Department has also applied for a $68,000 grant to equip all officers with new tasers, along with the training necessary to certify each officer on the new equipment.

Grant funding is a tremendous asset that allows our officers to stay equipped with up-to-date equipment while also ensuring they receive the training and certifications necessary to continue serving the community safely and professionally.
