Our Local is proud to share that two of our members assisted with this incredible effort.
Every year, our members complete extensive continuing education to maintain top-tier emergency medical skills and stay ahead of evolving community needs.
Most recently, several of our members completed K9 Basic Life Support training through AMU K9 Team, with more enrolled in upcoming classes. As EMS clinicians who frequently operate alongside working dogs, this course provided invaluable, specialized training in safety and medical treatment to support injured K9s and their handlers. We encourage all first responders to attend this training!
We are proud to collaborate alongside law enforcement, EMS, fire, and healthcare teams daily. Expanding that network to officially include our veterinary partners strengthens our shared mission.
We wish K9 Loki a speedy recovery!
Earlier today, Sgt. Kosh and K9 Loki were conducting training exercises in South Toms River when K9 Loki suffered a sudden medical emergency.
K9 Loki was immediately transported to Garden State Veterinary Specialists (GSVS) in Toms River, where veterinary staff were able to initially stabilize him. Recognizing the need for further advanced medical care, South Toms River Police K9 handlers activated the K9 Kona Medevac Program to facilitate an emergency medical transport to Red Bank Veterinary Hospital.
Upon arrival, K9 Loki was evaluated and further stabilized by veterinary specialists. K9 Loki is currently awaiting emergency surgery.
We are extremely grateful to the veterinary professionals, K9 Kona Medevac Program, New Jersey State Police, Ocean County Sheriff 911, Toms River Police Department, Toms River Police EMS IAFF Local 4846, Tracy Connellan, and everyone involved in getting Loki the urgent care he needs.
We ask that everyone keep K9 Loki, Sgt. Kosh, and the South Toms River Police Department K9 Unit in their thoughts as Loki undergoes treatment.
Additional updates will be provided when appropriate.
