🎃👻 HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM TONICA FIRE DEPARTMENT! 🚒

As you head out for trick-or-treating tonight, please remember to stay safe!

🔦 Carry a flashlight, stay in groups, and have a trusted adult accompany younger trick-or-treaters and steer clear from lit candles!

🚨 Daylight Saving Time Ends Tonight! Don't forget to turn your clocks BACK ONE HOUR before going to bed!

🔥 With the time change, it's also a great reminder to test your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms. Inspect them and replace any broken or expired alarms to keep your family safe.

Have a fun, safe Halloween, and remember to look out for one another!

From all of us at Tonica Fire Department, stay safe and have a spooktacular night! 🎃🚒

🇺🇸 September 11, 2001 — We Remember

Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001—a day that forever changed our country, and the world, and left a lasting mark on the hearts of many.

We remember the 2,977 innocent lives lost, the families who were forever changed, and the countless people who carried the pain of that day long after.

We especially honor the 343 members of the FDNY, the 60 police officers of the NYPD, and the 8 paramedics from the FDNY, who made the ultimate sacrifice while running toward danger to save others. They answered the call with courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to their fellow New Yorkers.

As firefighters, we understand the meaning of that sacrifice. Every alarm is a reminder that behind the call is a person, a family, and a community depending on someone to step forward.

May we never forget their names.
May we never forget their courage.
May we never forget the families who still feel their absence.
And may we always remember the extraordinary acts of bravery and kindness that emerged from the darkness.

We Remember. We Honor. We Will Never Forget. 🇺🇸

🚒 **A Special Day at Tonica Fire Department** 🚒

Today was a very special day at the Tonica Fire Department as we were honored to receive a visit from State Senator Chris Balkema.

Senator Balkema stopped by today and presented our department with a Fallen Firefighters Memorial Plaque, which was dedicated in honor and memory of Sue Huss.

We are truly honored to receive this meaningful plaque and to have Sue’s dedication and service remembered in such a special way. Her memory will continue to be a part of our department and the community we proudly serve.

A heartfelt thank you to Senator Balkema for his continued support of the Tonica Fire Department and for his dedication to supporting fire departments and firefighters throughout the great state of Illinois. Your support of those who serve our communities means so much to us.

Thank you Senator for honoring Sue and for standing behind Illinois firefighters! ❤️🚒

Did you know that a working smoke alarm can make the difference between life and death?

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA):

🔥 Working smoke alarms reduce the risk of dying in a home fire by about 50%.
🏠 Nearly 3 out of 5 home fire deaths occur in homes with either no smoke alarms or smoke alarms that didn't work.
⏱️ When a smoke alarm sounds, you may have less than 2 minutes to escape safely. Early warning saves lives.
🔋 Smoke alarms should be tested monthly and replaced every 10 years to ensure they provide reliable protection.

Our firefighters will come to your home and professionally install your smoke alarm at no cost to you!
