Stopping for school buses is the law in all 50 states. Following it protects young lives. Always stop when the stop-arm is out.

Checking your phone at a stoplight can make you miss traffic changes, pedestrians, and what's happening around you. Keep your eyes up and save the scrolling for when you've parked.

Your turn signal called. It misses you. 😄
If using your turn signal is becoming more of a "sometimes" thing, it may be a good time to pay extra attention to your driving habits. The other drivers around you would appreciate the reunion.

A local tow truck operator is raising awareness about the importance of paying attention while driving and moving over if you see a tow truck on the side of the road after a crash and close call on the highway earlier this week.

“It’s not if you get hit, it's when- because there’s just that much lack of awareness on the roads for us,” said Sarah Berntsen, a tow truck operator with Sunflower Tow Service.

Berntsen has been a tow truck operator for about five years, but Wednesday was her first truly close call and she says she feels blessed to be alive. AAA says towing is a dangerous career, with a tow truck operator dying every six days in America.

Under Kansas state law, when a traffic signal is completely out of service, drivers are generally required to treat the intersection as an all-way (four-way) stop, unless a law enforcement officer is directing traffic or another traffic control device indicates otherwise.
This means:

Come to a complete stop before entering the intersection.

Yield to vehicles that arrived before you.
If two vehicles arrive at the same time, yield to the vehicle on your right.

Proceed only when it is safe.

This is different from a traffic signal flashing yellow, which requires caution but not necessarily a stop.
Important legal distinction: Kansas statutes K.S.A. 8-1508 and 8-1510 address operating and flashing signals, but I could not verify an explicit statewide statute stating that every completely dark traffic signal legally becomes a four-way stop.
