Mission: Sparking curiosity and connecting our community through literacy and learning

Our current exhibit, You Are Here: Maps and the Art of Travel, displays a blend of traditional maps and abstract pieces that look like maps. The abstract NLS: Map 29 by Barbara Waterman-Peters' reimagines different kinds of maps, mixing their elements into one unique piece. Where is it taking you?

Sometimes adventure starts with a map. But here, maps are the adventure! Visit this free exhibit in our Alice C. Sabatini Gallery through Nov 29, 2026.

Everyone stop what you're doing and look at this!!

This is Maegan. Maegan is very proud of this project she made (just look at that proud face!). It is a trophy she 3D printed and hand-painted for tonight's Teen Online to IRL event, Camouglafe chemleleon. Camofloge cameloen.....Camouflage Chameleon! Teens will paint a little dude to blend in with the room (kind of like the game Meccha Chameleon). Player with the last figure to be found wins this trophy!

Although, she should also make a trophy for the first one to spell Camouflage Chameleon right on the first try.

Teens, you can come play tonight, Oct 15, 5:30-7:30pm in The Edge!

Give Maegan kudos for an excellent job! 👏👏👏

And if you want, drop a picture of something cool you did and we'll celebrate you, too!

You can stock up on books and movies while supporting the library and visits from great authors! Topeka-based author Alex Grecian visited Eye on NE Kansas with Jayna to share about Grecian's upcoming author talk and how you can get involved in events like this. Jayna also shared about the Friends of the Library Book & Media Sale this weekend, which helps bring author talks, events and resources to the Topeka and Shawnee County community.

History is the most dangerous place on earth. From dinosaurs the size of locomotives to meteors big enough to sterilize the planet, from famines to pandemics, from tornadoes to the Chicxulub asteroid, the odds of human survival are slim but not zero-at least, not if you know where to go and what to do. In each chapter of How to Survive History, author Cody Cassidy explores how to survive one of history's greatest threats. Emily recommends it to Dane in this FOX 43 AM LIVE Book of the Week.

Relish a unique film and music experience watching the silent film brought to life by live organ and percussion in a gothic cathedral. This free, spooky event is Fri, Oct 30, 7-8pm at Grace Cathedral. Doors open at 6:30pm.

Our feature film for the 29th annual Silents in the Cathedral is The Student of Prague, a 1926 German expressionist film and one of the first and best examples of Faustin bargain stories. You will also see short films:
• The Skeleton Dance (1928 - Disney)
• Baron Munchausen's Dream (1911 - Georges Méliès)
• Forgotten Sweeties (1927 - Hal Roach)

Denise Morrison will share film history. This event is brought to you by a partnership with the library, Kansas Silent Film Festival and Grace Episcopal Cathedral.
