🔥 CLOSE BEFORE YOU DOZE 🚪
Closing your bedroom door before going to sleep is one of the simplest actions you can take to help protect yourself during a house fire and the difference can be dramatic.
Research highlighted by the Fire Safety Research Institute shows how a closed door can improve conditions inside a bedroom:
-The 900-Degree Difference: Temperatures in a room with an open door can exceed 1,000°F, while a closed door can keep the room at approximately 100°F or lower.
-Fewer Toxic Gases: Carbon monoxide levels in an open room can reach approximately 10,000 parts per million. Behind a closed door, levels may remain between 100 and 1,000 parts per million—a reduction of up to 90%.
-More Breathable Oxygen: Oxygen levels can fall to approximately 8% in a room with an open door. A closed door can help preserve oxygen levels near 18%.
A closed door can slow the spread of heat, smoke, and toxic gases, providing valuable time to wake up, call 911, escape, or await rescue.
Before going to bed tonight:
✅ Close your bedroom doors.
✅ Make sure your smoke alarms are working.
✅ Know two ways out of every room.
✅ Choose an outdoor meeting place.
Close your door. Close before you doze. It could save your life.
