Stormwater can carry various pollutants it picks up from yards, driveways, or streets, including bacteria from animal waste or automobile fluids, and deposit them into local waterways.

Many people use rivers and lakes for swimming, fishing, or other recreational activities, but did you know that some municipalities or cities pull water for drinking water treatment from rivers, in addition to groundwater sources and streams?

That's why it's just as important for borough residents to be stormwater smart as it is for municipalities and departments like PennDOT to properly manage stormwater!

Did you know? 🌧️

Managing stormwater is essential to the quality and quantity of PA’s water resources. PennDOT installs stormwater systems on state highways to help manage stormwater.

Are you a “watch for deer” family? If so, you’re our kind of people.

As a Pennsylvanian, you have a 1-in-64 chance of being involved in an animal-related vehicle accident — that’s the fourth highest in the nation! And those chances increase as we approach peak breeding season for white-tailed deer.

We’re here to remind you to pay attention and slow down when driving on rural roads this fall.

Deer are most active at dawn and dusk, often travel in groups, and display unpredictable behavior during the rut as bucks chase does. If you see one, more may be following.

Now let’s say you unfortunately hit a deer — what’s next? Let’s break it down.

You’re not required to report the accident, unless your vehicle is disabled or someone requires medical attention.

If a deer is struck by a vehicle but not killed, do not approach it. Some deer may recover and move on. If not, drivers are encouraged to report the incident to the Game Commission at 1-833-PGC-WILD or other local law enforcement agency.

Residents may claim the road-killed carcass. To do so, call 1-833-PGC-WILD within 24 hours to obtain a free permit for the carcass. If those involved in the accident do not want it, a passing PA driver may claim the deer.

To report a dead deer on state roads, motorists can call PennDOT at 1-800-FIX-ROAD.

If you’re injured or need assistance, call 9-1-1 for immediate help.

Together, let’s take extra caution this fall, and every day of the year. And don’t forget, “watch for deer!”
