Welcome to El Camino, Officers Vanibuls and Soto

The El Camino College Police Department is proud to welcome Officers Timothy Vanibuls and David Soto, who were officially sworn in yesterday by Chief Matthew Vander Horck.

Both officers recently graduated from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Academy and were joined by family, friends, and members of ECPD as they took their oath of office and received their badges.

The badge pinning is a proud tradition in law enforcement. Having family members participate makes the occasion especially meaningful as these officers begin their careers serving the El Camino Community College District.

Officer Vanibuls and Officer Soto are the newest members of a growing ECPD team committed to professionalism, service, and the safety of our campus community.

Please join us in congratulating them and welcoming them to the El Camino family!

A childhood dream realized.

Congratulations to Officer David Soto on achieving his dream of becoming a police officer.

From El Camino Police Cadet, to Community Service Officer, and now El Camino Police Officer, David’s journey is a great example of what commitment, hard work, and perseverance can accomplish.

The young boy in that photograph dreamed of wearing the badge. Today, he does.

Congratulations, Officer Soto. We are proud to have you serving the El Camino College community.

🚲🛴 KNOW THE RULES BEFORE YOU RIDE
E-bikes and e-scooters have become a popular way to get to and around El Camino College. With the increase in riders, we have also seen an increased need to remind everyone that these devices must be operated safely and in accordance with California law and campus regulations.
🚫 SIDEWALKS ARE FOR PEDESTRIANS
E-bikes, e-scooters, conventional bicycles and skateboards may not be ridden on campus sidewalks or pedestrian walkways. Riders must dismount and walk their device in these areas.
🪖 KNOW WHEN A HELMET IS REQUIRED
• Class 1 and Class 2 E-Bikes: Helmet required for riders under 18
• Class 3 E-Bikes: Helmet required for ALL riders, regardless of age
• E-Scooters: Helmet required for riders under 18
🪪 E-SCOOTER RIDERS NEED A LICENSE OR PERMIT
California law requires anyone operating a motorized e-scooter to possess a valid driver's license or instruction permit.
🚦 FOLLOW THE RULES OF THE ROAD
Whether you are riding an e-bike, e-scooter or conventional bicycle, traffic laws still apply. Stop at stop signs and red lights, ride with traffic, yield when required and pay attention to pedestrians and other vehicles.
⚠️ ECPD ENFORCEMENT
El Camino Police Department will be enforcing traffic laws and campus regulations involving e-bikes, e-scooters, bicycles and skateboards. Riders operating these devices in prohibited areas or in violation of traffic laws are subject to traffic citation.
The goal is simple: prevent collisions and injuries and make our campus safer for everyone.
KNOW THE LAW. FOLLOW THE RULES. RIDE SAFE.

Earlier this week, members of the El Camino College Police Department Honor Guard were honored to participate in the Green Hills Memorial Day Observance in Rancho Palos Verdes.

This annual ceremony is recognized as one of the largest and most meaningful Memorial Day observances in California, bringing together veterans, active-duty military personnel, Gold Star families, and thousands of community members to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

We are proud to have represented El Camino College and to stand alongside those remembering our fallen heroes.

Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

The El Camino College Police Department is proud to announce that our Honor Guard was selected to participate in the 57th Annual Los Angeles County Peace Officers’ Memorial Ceremony for the first time.

This solemn and prestigious ceremony honors the brave law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty while serving the residents of Los Angeles County. This year, eight fallen officers were remembered and honored for their courage, service, and sacrifice.

It was a tremendous honor for our Honor Guard to stand alongside agencies from across Los Angeles County in paying tribute to those who gave their lives in service to others. We will never forget their dedication, bravery, and commitment to protecting our communities.

Please join us in honoring all fallen peace officers and keeping their families, friends, and fellow officers in your thoughts.
