A little space can save a life.

When you see flashing lights on the side of the road, that’s your cue to make a move.

This is National Move Over Day, and the message is simple: MOVE OVER. If you can’t safely change lanes, SLOW DOWN.

Behind those flashing lights are police officers, firefighters, tow truck operators, and road crews working to keep our roads safe.

Give them space to do their jobs. Give them the chance to make it home safely.

Today is the Great ShakeOut, a nationwide earthquake preparedness exercise reminding us all to practice what to do when an earthquake strikes: DROP, COVER, and HOLD ON.

But preparedness doesn’t stop when the drill ends.

The Torrance Police Department has FREE Disaster Preparedness Guides available in our station lobby in English and Spanish to help you and your family plan ahead, build emergency kits, and prepare for disasters before they happen.

Stop by, pick one up, and take the first step toward being better prepared.

Disasters don’t wait until you’re ready. Make sure you are.
