On August 3, 2026, New Milford Community Ambulance launched its Blood Medic program, bringing the ability to administer life-saving blood products directly to patients in the field.
We’re proud to share that our crew has now administered the first unit of blood since the program began.
Paramedic Tyler Reginatto and EMT Shannon Sullivan, assisted by Medic 1 Ashley Sawicki, responded on September 8th, 2026 to an elderly patient experiencing an active GI bleed. Recognizing the severity of the patient’s condition, the crew utilized the newly available blood resource and administered a unit of packed red blood cells while en route to the hospital.
This call represents exactly why bringing blood products into the prehospital setting is so important — allowing our clinicians to begin critical treatment when every minute matters.
Congratulations to Tyler, Shannon, and Ashley on this important milestone, and thank you for the exceptional care you provided to your patient. 🚑🩸
