The Toulon Police Department has been made aware of several complaints about electric scooters on the streets of Toulon violating motor vehicle laws. Our Officers have also conducted traffic stops on the children operating these scooters and can verify the complaints are valid concerns for the safety and well-being of these children. Under 625 ILCS 5/11-1518, you must be at least 18 years of age to operate these electric scooters. If our officers see children operating an electric scooter in a less than safe manner, it will be at the discretion of our officers to stop the scooter and a citation may be issued. If stopped multiple times, the scooter may be impounded. Any traffic crashes involving children under 18 years of age operating these scooters will be held liable for the traffic crash.
