On this day in 1984, our community experienced an unimaginable tragedy as three brave firefighters lost their lives battling the devastating blaze at Shiller's Furniture and Appliance Store in . This heartbreaking event stands as the deadliest day in history, forever etched in our memories.

Firefighters Walter Bawroski, Henry Rayner Jr., and James Kimbel made the ultimate sacrifice that day in the line of duty, courageously putting their lives on the line to protect others. Their selflessness and heroism continue to inspire all of us, and today, we pause to honor their legacy.

As we remember their sacrifice, we also reflect on the risks firefighters face daily and the unwavering commitment they show to keep our communities safe. Walter, Henry, and James will never be forgotten. We stand with their families and the entire firefighting community, holding their memory close in our hearts.

Grease fires can flare up fast! If a grease fire starts in a pan, smother, don't splash. Never use water as it will cause the burning oil to splatter and spread.

Slide a tight-fitting lid or metal baking sheet over the pan to cut off the oxygen, turn off the heat, and leave it covered until it cools completely.

It only takes a few seconds to buckle up, but it's your best line of defense on the road. Fastening your seat belt cuts your risk of fatal injury nearly in half during a crash.

No matter how short the drive, make sure everyone in your vehicle buckles up before you put the car in drive!

Fall is a fantastic time for a bike ride, but earlier sunsets and slick roads means riders of all ages should be extra cautious. Helmets only work if you wear them, so make sure yours is buckled and properly fitted every time you head out.
