Today we recognize Indigenous Peoples' Day and honor the histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of Indigenous peoples.

We also recognize the enduring relationship Indigenous communities have with the land and natural world.

Today, and every day, is an opportunity to learn, listen, and appreciate the many histories that shape the places we call home.

๐ŸŒฟ A clean business makes a difference.

Today we're highlighting Oniyabode African Market, a Litter-Smart Business that keeps its storefront and surrounding community clean.

Businesses play an important role in creating welcoming, litter-free neighborhoods, and we're grateful for those that are willing to lead by example.

๐ŸŽ Happy World Teachers' Day!

Today we're celebrating the teachers who inspire curiosity, encourage questions, and help the next generation understand the world.

Environmental education starts with asking questions about the places we call home, and teachers help turn those questions into action. ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿšฌ Small litter. Big problem.

When cigarette butts are tossed onto sidewalks, streets, or into gutters, they can enter storm drains and local waterways.

The solution takes seconds: ๐Ÿšฎ
Use an ashtray or receptacle every time.
Let's keep cigarette butts off the ground and out of our waterways.

Beginning Monday, October 5, Baltimore City Department of Public Works will begin withdrawing water from the Susquehanna River to supplement water from the Prettyboy and Loch Raven reservoirs. Susquehanna water will be blended with Loch Raven water before being treated and tested at the Montebello water treatment plants.

You may notice a slight change in taste, odor or color in your water. It will remain safe for drinking, bathing, and cooking.

The use of Susquehanna River water is a response to prolonged drought conditions and declining reservoir levels. It is unrelated to the recent diesel fuel leak at the Baltimore County Detention Center, which has not affected the regionโ€™s drinking water supply.

The blended water will primarily serve areas supplied by the Montebello plants, including portions of Baltimore County. Areas supplied by the Liberty system are not expected to receive Susquehanna River water.
