Our GCA crew is proudly wearing pink this October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

We’re not just wearing pink, we’re reminding our community to take care of themselves, too.

Schedule your mammogram. Know what’s normal for you. Do your regular self-checks. Early detection matters.

Today and every day, we honor the survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and stand beside everyone whose life has been touched by breast cancer.

From our GCA family to yours, we’re standing together in the fight against breast cancer.

And here's this week's Tuesday tally;

Our crews handled 50 calls this week. well above the average weekly call volume. Fourteen of those calls involved long-distance interfacility transfers, accounting for nearly 2,500 miles of travel.

With 1,350 calls completed so far in 2026, GCA is on pace to slightly exceed last year's 1,821 call total.

On September 11, 2001 nearly 3,000 lives - including firefighters, law enforcement officers, and EMS personnel - were lost in the deadliest act of terrorism in US history.

Twenty-five years later we pause to remember their service, their sacrifice, and the unity our nation found in the face of tragedy. We also remember the families who lost loved ones, those who answered the call in the days and months that followed, and those who continue to carry the effects of that day.

The "Tuesday Tally" is late again this week. (If you ever wondered why it's called the Tuesday Tally, it's because we meet with the County Commission each week on Tuesday to give our operational report, and we "tally" the calls that morning.)

For the seven day period ending on August 25th, Grundy County Ambulance Service responded to 34 calls for service; 24 local calls and 10 interfacility transfers.

Those calls represented approximately 68 hours of active engagement in EMS operations and 1,954 operational miles. Although interfacility transfers made up less than one-third of the week’s call volume, they accounted for about 65% of working hours and 90% of our milage.

It was also a busy week behind the scenes. GCA advanced several grant projects aimed at modernization and equipment upgrades, including approval of funding for ruggedized laptops and progress on a USDA rural-development technology grant. The service was also active in Regional planning activities through TorchCare Hub 3 (composed of Livingston, Mercer, Grundy, and Harrison Counties), which is part of a broader statewide effort associated with the Rural Healthcare Transformation Act.

This past week GCA responded to 42 calls: 35 local calls and
7 interfacility transfers.

That is 15 more calls than last week, driven almost entirely by increased local emergency activity. Rural EMS workload can change quickly from one week to the next, and our crews continue to balance local emergency coverage with lengthy interfacility transfers that take ambulances out of the county for long hours.

This week, our EMS crews some had poignant reminders of why their training, teamwork, and quick decision-making matter so much.

One crew achieved a successful cardiac arrest save. Another conducted an emergent transport of a stroke patient and had the rare opportunity to witness the mechanical thrombectomy that followed.

Behind every call are people who train hard, stay ready, make critical decisions under pressure, and never stop advocating for their patients. We are incredibly proud of the providers who make up our service. This week gave us two especially clear examples of why.
