Online threats, blackmail, and extortion are serious dangers that can affect children and teens. Predators may use fear, embarrassment, and threats to pressure young people into sending money, sharing explicit images, or keeping secrets from trusted adults.

Not everyone online is who they claim to be. Names, photos, ages, and profiles can all be misleading. Talk with your kids about who they’re connecting with online, review friend requests together, and remind them to speak up if something doesn’t feel right.

When it comes to online safety, trust should be earned—not assumed.

Big News for Grayson County Schools!

Today, the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) released the 2026 School Performance and Framework results based on the 2025-2026 student performance data and GCPS earned top marks across the division! All six of the Grayson County Schools were fully accredited and had great gains for the 2025-2026 school year.

"Distinguished" Rating (The highest designation a school can achieve in the VDOE accountability system):
• Fairview Elementary School
• Grayson County High School
• Grayson Highlands School
• Independence Middle School

"Meets Expectations" Recognition (The second-highest recognition in the accountability system):

These incredible accomplishments are a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our amazing teachers, staff, administrators, families, and—most importantly—our students.

Congratulations to all six of our schools! 💙💛

🍂🎃 Pre-K Fall Field Trip to Richdale Farm! 🎃🍂

What an absolutely wonderful day our Grayson Highlands School Pre-K class had at Richdale Farm today!

Our students and their families enjoyed a beautiful fall day filled with fun, laughter, and lots of hands-on experiences. The children had a blast enjoying the hayride, exploring the corn maze, playing in the corn pit, riding the hillside slide, and finding the perfect pumpkin to take home! 🎃🌽

One of the sweetest parts of our day was gathering together for a picnic with our families and friends. It was such a special opportunity for everyone to sit together, enjoy a meal, visit, and make memories outside of the classroom. ❤️

The smiles, laughter, excitement, and time spent together made this a field trip to remember!

A huge THANK YOU to all of our Pre-K families and friends who joined us and helped make our day so special. We are so thankful for your support and for the opportunity to learn, play, and make wonderful memories together.

And a special thank-you to Richdale Farm for providing such a fun-filled fall experience for our little learners!

We hope you enjoy this little glimpse into our wonderful day at the farm! So many smiles, laughs, and special memories made with our Pre-K friends and families. ❤️🍂🎃

What a GREAT day on the farm! 🌽🍁🎃

October is National Bullying Prevention Month.
Words on a screen can still hurt, and behind every account is a real person with real feelings. Let's remind our children to choose kindness, speak up when they see bullying, and reach out to a trusted adult when they need help. Together, we can make our online spaces safer for everyone.

Messages that disappear do not mean they never happened. Screenshots, screen recordings, and other ways of saving content can make a message permanent. Talk with your kids about what they send, who they send it to, and why “disappearing” doesn’t always mean gone.
