Miami County Animal Shelter Dedicated to protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Miami County. We will be happy to help you through this process.

OUR ADOPTION PROCESS:

VISIT OUR ADOPTABLE PETS AND FIND YOUR PERFECT FIT

Come in for a visit with our adoptable animals. Finding that “perfect fit” is an important step in the adoption process. With the help of one of our great staff members, you can visit with the animals in our outdoor Dog Recreation and Socialization Pavilion to make sure you have found a great fit. We also ask that you bring any dogs already in the home for a formal meet and greet with the dog you wish to adopt. SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION

We are passionate about finding the right home for our pets so we carefully review applications for compliance with our adoption guidelines. Applications may not be able to be reviewed the same day they are submitted. We will confirm that you are a homeowner by verifying your application on the Auditor's website. If you are currently renting, we will need to speak directly with your landlord to confirm pets are permitted. It is our policy that a fenced-in yard is required for the adoption of all Huskies, pit bulls, pit bull mixes, and large breed dogs. Please note that if you wish to adopt a dog that is still within its three-day holding period, you will be asked to complete a temporary application. WELCOME HOME YOUR NEW COMPANION

Upon approval of your application, you will be able to bring home your new companion! All unaltered animals must be spayed or neutered within 45 days of adoption or, for our younger adoptees, by the age of 7 months. The MCAS will provide a $30 certificate for you to use towards the cost of spaying or neutering your animal with a veterinarian of your choice within Miami County. The adoption fees are $96 for dogs and $45 for cats. These fees include:

• The first round of vaccinations plus the first dose of deworming medicine
• One-year license (for dogs)
• Coupon for a free health examination with a Miami County veterinarian

October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month!
While you’re out shopping and supporting local businesses in Downtown Piqua, keep an eye out for our posters and donation boxes featuring some of our adoptable shelter dogs!
All donations collected through these boxes go directly toward our Medical Fund, helping provide the medical care our shelter pets need while they wait for their forever families.
So this month, shop local, support local, and help a shelter pet along the way!
A huge thank you to all of the downtown Piqua businesses participating and helping us make a difference for the animals in our community!
