Troy Police make illegal fi***rm arrest.
On Thursday, October 8, 2026, at approximately 8:37 p.m., detectives assigned to Project Sentinel, the Special Operations Section, and the Detective Bureau were in the area of 5th Ave and 102nd Streetas part of an ongoing, targeted, intelligence-led enforcement initiative focused on illegal fi***rms and other criminal activity.
During the investigation, officers attempted to stop an individual believed to be connected to the investigation. The individual fled on foot but was apprehended a short time later. He was found to be in possession of an illegal handgun. The subject, a 13yr old, was charged as a juvenile with offenses that if charged as an adult would constitute Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree and Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the 2nd Degree. The case will proceed in the juvenile justice system.
This incident represents another fi***rm removed from our streets and reinforces the importance of proactive policing, intelligence-led enforcement, and continued efforts to address illegal fi***rms in our community. The Troy Police Department remains committed to working collaboratively with the community to promote public safety and prevent gun violence.
“Project Sentinel continues to achieve outstanding results, and the numbers speak for themselves. Our officers and detectives continue to take illegal guns off Troy’s streets, make arrests, and hold individuals engaged in criminal activity accountable. This is exactly what proactive, intelligence led policing is supposed to look like: identifying threats, taking action, and making our neighborhoods safer. I commend our Troy Police Department for the exceptional work they are doing through Project Sentinel. We are going to keep building on this momentum and ensuring our officers have the tools and resources they need to keep illegal guns out of our community and protect the people of Troy.” – Mayor Carmella R. Mantello
We also want to take this opportunity to remind parents and guardians of the important role they play in keeping our community safe. We encourage families to have open, honest conversations with their children about the dangers of fi***rms, the potentially life-altering consequences of handling or possessing a gun, and the serious risks associated with becoming involved in fi***rm-related activity. These conversations can make a difference and may help prevent a tragedy before it occurs. Keeping our streets safe is a shared responsibility, and it starts with all of us working together to protect our children and our community.
If you have any information regarding illegal drug or fi***rm activity in our city, please consider contacting detectives using our phone tip line at (518) 270-4777 or by submitting online at troypd.org. The collective effort between the Mayor, administration and Troy Police Department remains strong, and we are all committed to creating a safer, cleaner Troy.
