Yesterday, our crews responded to a structure fire at a residence where a cat suffered smoke inhalation injuries. Thanks to the incredible support of our community, we were previously able to obtain pet oxygen masks β€” and yesterday, they made all the difference.

With quick action and the use of one of the pet oxygen masks, Paramedic Lucas was able to help resuscitate the cat, who thankfully made a full recovery.

This is a perfect example of how community support directly impacts lives β€” including our four-legged family members. Thank you to everyone who helped make these lifesaving tools possible, and great work to all crews involved. πŸΎπŸš‘πŸ”₯

We would also like to recognize and thank the fire districts that responded to this incident: Winfield Foley Fire Protection District, Elsberry Fire Protection District, Old Monroe Fire Protection District, and Lincoln County Fire Protection District. We greatly appreciate their teamwork, dedication, and commitment to serving our community.

In the early morning hours of February 5th, 2023, our crews were dispatched to an iPhone crash detection call β€” a call that would unfortunately change the lives of many forever.

This morning, four of the crew members involved in that response were visited by the mother of one of the patients they treated that day. It was an incredibly meaningful experience to sit, listen, and learn about her son and who he was as a person, as we so often do not get the opportunity to know the lives behind the calls we respond to.

We hope today brought a small measure of healing. It’s moments like these that remind us why compassion and human connection matter.
