FLORISTON FIRE UPDATE, 9/17, 12:30pm: TDPUD continues to monitor the Floriston Fire and remains in contact with NV Energy to track the possibility of emergency de-energization of the transmission lines that serve electricity to Truckee. Based on current fire containment efforts and the direction of spread, power outages for TDPUD’s territory are not expected. But this could change based on today’s winds and fire behaviors.

FLORISTON FIRE - POTENTIAL POWER IMPACT

TDPUD is monitoring the Floriston Fire and its potential impact to our power service. While the fire is not currently threatening Truckee, it has the potential to threaten the NV Energy transmission lines that deliver power to our distribution system from Verdi. If NV Energy opts for an emergency de-energization of the transmission line, all TDPUD customers will lose power without advance notice. We recommend customers take precautions now to charge devices and prepare for the possibility of an outage. We will update when we have more information.

đź”” TDPUD Update on Wildfire Safety Power Outages

Truckee Donner PUD does not anticipate being affected by a preemptive wildfire safety power outage this weekend. We are aware that other utilities in the region have issued warnings for potential safety outages this weekend, but the weather conditions and wildfire danger level forecast for Truckee do not currently meet the threshold for a wildfire safety outage.

NV Energy has indicated that it does not expect to de-energize the transmission lines that feed TDPUD’s system. Even though both Liberty Utilities and NV Energy have flagged an elevated fire risk in Verdi—which we often remind customers is where our transmission lines are located—this monitoring currently only relates to NVE’s distribution system in Verdi, not its transmission lines in the area.

These precautions are stemming from a storm tracking to our north that will bring strong winds into the area this Saturday. Since yesterday, the winds forecast for Truckee have diminished, which lowers the fire danger for our area. This is why TDPUD also does not anticipate needing to deploy our own Preemptive Power Shutoff program.

If anything changes, we will alert our customers following our standard PSOM/PPS protocol. More information can be found here: www.tdpud.org/psom. We urge our customers to make sure their contact information is up to date in their online account; this is our primary method of communication in these outage events.

To protect its customers and community from the risk of extreme weather, NV Energy is implementing a Public Safety Outage Management (PSOM) program in…

CORRECTION, 8/31, 9:25am: There is no unplanned outage in Sierra Meadows. The only customers currently without power are the ~300 customers involved in today’s planned outage. An error in our system mistakenly showed the entire circuit as out of power, instead of just the section affected. We apologize for any confusion.

OUTAGE ALERT, 8/31, 9:10am: We are experiencing an outage affecting approximately 2,000 customers in Sierra Meadows. Crews are responding, we estimate we’ll be able to restore power within about 30 mins. This is separate from today’s smaller, planned outage in that same area to facilitate overhead hardening work.
